Default d15b2 w/ d16z6 head

I am planning on swapping my stock head for a z6 head. I want to get the most compression out of it without breaking the bank. Any advice on this would be great. This is going to be my daily driver so I just want to make just enough power to have some fun and not go too extreme with machining and what not. I hear the compression ratio for this swap alone is 10.6:1 but thats just what I've read. If anyone has done this swap I'd like to know how it turned out as far as performance gains if any.

one quick and easy way for more compression: use the Z6 head gasket, not the B2 one. either gasket will work, but the z6 gasket is thinner.

dang d15b2 bottom and vtec head? Can the bottom handle them revs? I'd be kinda scared since the d15's crank, rods, and journals are quite dinky. If it works though.....imma build me one right now! So many SOHC's sitting in my shed...

The correct term guys is "mini-me" a non vtec block with a vtec head.

a few things..

you will need to remove the oil oriface jet between cylinders 2 & 3, otherewise you will not get vtec activation.

Use the 92-95 VX timing belt (for 1.5 M/M)

Revs are easily supported, the B2 just has a shorter stroke than the d16's. I use to have a turbo mini-me.

along with Abaz's post haha i just can get over that avatar!

to correct the guy up top no the z6 isnt the thinnest.. the thinnest Dseries HEAD GASKET (its also metal) is the y8 gasket and yes your able to use it on your swap if you do go along with this project.

125-130 to the wheels and 110 tq to the wheels with i/h/e... thats stock 1.8LS wheelHP area. I did this swap about 2 years ago on my 90 Civic DX hatch, back then it was such a pain in the *** with the timing. and so much "R & D" with timing belts, which one would fit.

I wish i had the write ups and pics like everyone can get today.

I tried a VX belt on my B2/Z6 mini-me and I couldn't get it on. Seemed to short, so I used a Z6 belt instead. Even that was a little tight to get on. Also, timing will be off half a tooth. I just used a cam gear and advanced it half a tooth.

if you use the vx belt it will fit, tightly. but you wont be off that 1 tooth as oppose to the z6 belt.

hmm....what makes the mini me so much more powerful than a d16z w/ I/H/E?
Im thinking the b2 has a flatter piston than z6?

so wouldnt you get more hp from a d16a6 and z6 head with the z6 headgasket.? Wouldnt that setup be better than with a d15b1or 2 bottom end..since we are on compression would the 88d15b1(std) be best since it has the highest compression...of course you would have to ditch the hf style manifold an do mpfi

y8 headgasket is the thinnest/strongest OE dseries gasket.. using this would have higher compression then z6/a6 headgasket.

d15b1-2 with vtec head will put around the same #s. That .1 difference in displacement in the d16 does make a difference. slightly.

you can't put a D-series head on a B-series block, you need a B-series vtec head. search for info on "LS-VTEC" that's the setup you need with your engine.

now if you accually have the stock D15B2 that the 90 DX came with and you just typoed up there... you're at the right thread.

So I have a d15b2 and I want to run a d16z6 head. U guys are saying to run the vx belt so that it isn’t a tooth off. And the z6 or y8 head gasket. But as far a wiring goes what needs to be done.

Try not to bump (almost) 20 year old posts if you can help it, lol. This link to a great mini-me swap write-up by @BauleyCivic should answer all your questions and then answer the questions you didn't even know you had yet. Good luck!
