i picked up a set of black jdm recaros and they look like they could use a little cleaning.

was wondering if its possible to use suede cleaner on alcantra, i know its not the same material but they are very similar in texture. anyone know if this is possible or better yet used it ? if not what would you guys recommend ?

 

I would think that those synthetic suede cleaners for shoes and stuff would be more suitable since alacantra is closer to that than actual suede. Let us know how it goes though.

i've always just used soapy water and an extremely soft-bristled brush -- it's always worked great for me.

What kind of soap? Regular hand soap (like some Dial), dishwasher soap, car wash soap, etc.?

Do you have to rinse it out somehow after getting the soap in there?

i use really diluted dish soap and then i wipe the seats with a damp rag afterwards. i usually only have to do this when i'm trying to get out stains.

Non-removable Alcantara® covers can be cleaned with soap and water. Avoid using solvents (particularly perchloroethyene and trichlorethylene) and contact with steam cleaners. The use of "spray extraction" upholstery cleaners is acceptable at low temperatures.

 

Did any find that the alcantera changed in texture after putting water to it. IE. not looking as smooth, more grainy? That happened to my USDM itr seats when i tried cleaning the alcantera with water, and Im afraid to try anything on the jdms, although I would like to clean them somehow.

I bought a set of RED Recaros and used a special SUEDE cleaner that I bought a a shoe repair store. It worked great, just make sure to DILUTE it and wipe it all off with a clean dry towel when your done.

 

good information guys. I dont think I have to clean my seats anytime soon. But Im sure I will have to in the future. When I had my GSR with leather.... I was cleaning those things like every 2 weeks.

 

hmm.. which cleaner is that?
