Default ??'s on Putting Crower 403 cams in my integra LS!!!!!

Ok I have about $800 to work with and I think I want to do a cam set up on my 94 integra. I was wondering if this set up will work fine in my car, crower 403 cams $350, skunk2 cam gears $200, and an apexi SAFC $250. Do I need anything else to run this setup for street use. I have read many post on this topic and have got the impression that crower recomends the springs and retainers but they aren't neccessary to run these cams. I know that I should probally get the retainers/ springs but I just dont have the money. Should I get this set up and run it or something else. I already have all the basic bolt ons, suspension wheels, ect. and I want a little more power and felt this is the right choice. Also how will my idle be? Any information from people who have run this setup or similar set ups in teg would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

That sounds like a great setup.

Are you sure that the 403's don't require their springs/retainers? The 402T's that I have have had their instruction sheet amended and now it says it's highly recommended. I'd save a little more to be on the safe side and install those too.

While you're in there, get the head reconditioned along with your valves and such. Should be a nice setup.

Get the springs! dont get retainers!
Retainers are a waste your stocks are fine trust me. Anyone who tells you they are not have just heard that somewhere else. Everyone says get titanium retainers and thats BS. Its actually not only a waste of money but can cause harm. Ti retainers are racing parts made for high temp engine. If your runnign a daily driver and like to have some drag racing fun thats fine. Its only when your runnign a track where you will have your car at redline for minutes at a time when u need Ti. Ti retainers wear down and if you get them you have to check them every 10-20 thousand KM i believe and thats ****. Anyways get the springs cuz they would be a very good idea especially if you raise your redline at all. Retainers are a waste of money. I know of a guy running a GSR built with soem crazy **** (he wont give his setup) it prob runs 13s atleast and he has agressive cams and his redline at over 9000RPM and has stock retainers!
You have an awsome setup but just get springs and save your money and dont get retainers unless your running track.

I'm running custom ground cams that are more aggressive than 403's and I have crower springs waiting to be installed but I'm sticking with stock retainers.

You can run 403's on stock valve train as long as you don't plan on revving past your stock fuel cut off.

HTH.

not be an *** or anything but every car is different, if it were my car i would do it the right way and get the springs and retainers ...so in case of a worse case scenario were u miss shift or rev past 9k u won't blow ur head..

crower says they are nessary and even if some people say its not needed if you keep your stock red line, do you really want to question the reliability for $300 difference. I agree that maybe you should just wait untill you have enough money, or put some other things off first

just a question... you said you were going to buy cams, cam gears, and an apexi safc, if you really wanted to get all the power out of putting them on you would need to do some dyno tuning (again the proper way of doing it) but you wouldn't have the money to do that, so what would be the point of getting the cam gears and safc?

if anything i would sugest getting the cams w/springs and retainers and if you don't have enough money do do anything else you can just run the cams straight up and they will still give you some good power, untill you have the money to put the other parts and tune it

I have JUST the crower Springs .. stock retainers ... and i have 30K on my 403z and they are running like a champ ...

as far as springs are concerned ... well your running more of an aggressive cam... your stock springs are rated for the use of the LS mild cam ... the power band is 1000rpm-8000rpm.... so even if your not revin past 7k ... you still have an aggressive cam running on springs its not rated for from 1000rpm-7000rpm

your Timing in crucial .... if something breaks and it gets out of wack .. your going to be spending some $$$ to fix ... get the springs Crower springs
