Default are these some decent prices? thanks

hey guys,

got some quotes from a guy that has ashop in so cal. that was willing to do the job at his home so i would save money and he wouldnt have to split it with his partner. he told me the following:

labor to install motor mounts/inserts ( rear, pass. lower, driver lower & upper) between 65-100$. he said that 3 of em would be es inserts which would cost about 65$ for the stiffest kind.

labor for installing axles - 20$ per side. 100$ for both axles or 50$ each( used ones but good condition ie. 2000 gs-r). what do u guys think of buying pepboys axles with the warranty, which is better? anything i should know is greatly appreciated.

thanks guys

it's up to you man.. you can honestly do the work yourself if you want.. but basically your paying 120 for labor.. I guess it's not that bad if u don't have the time nor tools to do it.. but make sure to try to watch what he does so at least you learn to do it yourself

Agreed, changing axles isn't that difficult. I think there was a how to posted here a few days ago on changing axles.

This is very good advice. That 120 dollars on tools will go a long way as you can always work on your own car in the future. I know you can get a decent set of ratchets/sockets/screwdrivers for 120.00 I got a 152 piece craftsman set for 99.99. Then I also suppose you need a jack and jackstands, etc if you don't already have these items. You can pay someone for the labor, but the knowldge you gain from doing it yourself is much more rewarding. If you do decide to get some tools and do it yourself, don't forget the 32mm socket like he said. It's used to hold the axles to the hubs.

From what I've heard, Pepboys axles suck. I personally wouldn't run anything other than OEM axles. As far as used axles go, if they are out of a 2000 GSR then you should be plenty fine. People buy swaps all the time and use, used axles that come in the swap package, right?

hmmmm...i feel the same way when working on my car...the only thing i do is change the oil and tranny fluid. i'm doing the oil right now and it's not too bad...except for a 6 pack of Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic oil...$30.00 for 6 bottles...damn
the 120 bucks in labor is not too bad...that's decent. as for the axles, stick to OEM ones...they're good enough.

Those are good prices, but I wouldn't do the motor mount inserts, they make your steering wheel vibrate alot, it's annoying!

i bought rebuilt axles from autozone with a lifetime warranty. if they snap racing then i can get a free replacement. not that i put out enought power for that anyway.
