1st gen Swap Questions
Hey guys
Searched alot on this topic but did not find much info for the 1st gens.
Here is the skinny---
Basically I was cruising around town tonight and saw a CRX sitting along side of the road. It appeared to have gathered alot of bird crap so I figured it had been sitting there for a while. I decided to talk to the person that lived there and basically there is a hole in the block
, and he said I could HAVE the car for free. A friend of a friend just swapped his Del Sol and he has a complete D16Z6 swap sitting in his garage. This would seem to be the most economic swap for the CRX. The problem is, its an 86 or 87 and I havent seen much followin on the D16's for the 1st gen CRX's. How attainable is this swap and where are some better technical resources to browse?
PS......I really have no previous knowledge of honda in general although I run a complete custom tuning shop mainly devoted to domestics as well as my previous car being a 1990 300zx Twin Turbo which all the work was done by myself. We are looking to broaden the horizon's somewhat and was thinking this car with the SOHC VTEC would kick out some decent power at a good price.
PSS.....I have a complete fully equipped shop includin machining, full lift, welding, never ending supply of tools, and coming soon is the dynojet. This swap is completely within my mechanical limits. I'm just trying to decipher what parts are needed and what I can expect to shell out although price isnt really that big of a deal to me.
Thanks

depending on the model of the crx, you may need to replace the front hubs with some 86-89 integra hubs. these will allow you to run the proper spline count halfshafts. you may even be able to use the original trans. as for fuel injection wiring, i have heard this can be a bit of a mess if the car is carbureted. still worth trying. i would think the easiest way of getting the vtec working would be a summit rpm activated switch. sport compact car did a write up of a b16 into a 1st gen crx a few years ago. check them out.
OH! if the crx is an si, jump for joy and give the spoiler a squeeze for me. haaha

Sorry man but its an HF, so i figured the carbueration would be a bitch to convert to FI. But yes the tranny and motor mounts i figured would be an issue
you should get a b16 its only like 1k bucks plus mounts and a clutch and youll rape 14s allday long. with that ex motor you might hit a mid to low 15 with some bolt ons on it but eiter way their both alright for the amount of money thrown down.
I was going to do the same thing for this '86 Civic Si, they're basically the same car. I've asked around and was told that it is a VERY involved, very difficult process to swap a d16z6 into a third gen Civic. You'd have to get new mounts, do the wiring(unless you want to run without VTEC).
