Blown motor, or just head gasket????
ok, my car was over heating like crazy, and i was forced to keep driving, so i "blew" my engine. i took the head off today, and i am in the middle of replacing my head gasket. what else may have gotten f*cked up?? i know i didnt throw a rod and its not seized, but what else could be broken??

I would drop the oil pan and check all your bearings. When the car's that hot for that long, oil isn't doing much as far as lubrication goes. Check the bearing, check the deck and head for "trueness"-you could have possibly warped either, which probably happened.

did you notice any smoke coming from your exhaust and/or engine bay?
no matter if the head gasket is the problem or not, it's good you're replacing it anyway.

ok, its not running, the head is off, before it died there was a whole lot of white smoke from the exhaust and the engine, plus it blow a hole in the top of my radiator. the oil looked normal, black. and the coolant was darker than normal, and all foamy, cause i blew my head gasket.
i would check if your head is warped or not, use a straightedge and place on the head, if all is even then its still good, if not, you have to machine it.
Check for burnt valves and a warped head. A freind of mine had the same thing go wrong with his boosted D16Z, the head had a few bad valves. He slapped on a newer head and was good to go.

Optimistically, you probably just blew the head gasket. Either way, that head should go to the shop to verify what damage you incurred, and that will answer your Q's. The good news is you now have the opportunity to do the H2o pump, T-belt, and all vital gaskets while you're in there, I mean you may as well just hit it while you're there, no?

ok, i got it running. all i did was change the head gasket, i was gonna do the timing belt, but then i realized how you have to do it, so i left the old one on. i patched the radiator with some of that dual-tube epoxy, and it seems to be doing fine. only thing is that theres a knock now, could i possibly be a rod (i hope not!!) thanks.
overheating huh??? did you check the radiator fluid level? how's the thermostat? was it bogging down? any clanking noise from the motor? how's the water pump? were u leaking oil between the head and the block? why did you pull the head off? any leaks from the block at all? need more info...
it had plenty of fluid, before it boiled off, and i changed the thermostat last weekend. it bogged right before it stalled/died. i pulled the head off because like 40 people told me i blew my head gasket, and cylinder #3 had the metal part of the gasket burned all the way out. it wasnt leaking, just dead, but its all running now, no more problems, except that its slow, but a d16z6 will help with that.
