Acura Racing News, SWC and GAC
Acura Race fans,
There is another RSX-S in SWC Touring. Check our #41 on the Touring entry list, Peter Schwartzott Racing.
In Grand Am Cup news, HART goes 1,2 in first race of 2003 season. From theracesite.com is the following article:
2/1/2003 - By Beth Wyse
The Honda of American Racing Team Acura RX-S cars took the top two spots in the Sport Touring I class at Daytona International Speedway after having a race-long battle with Team Lexus.
The Acura of Pete Halsmer and John Schmitt took the class win, finishing almost one lap ahead of the Acura of Chad Gilsinger and Shawn Allen.
Gilsinger had the early lead in the race, but Ian James, who started the race from the pole in the Lexus IS300, quickly moved to the top of the field.
Team Lexus held the top spot for a while before it was snagged by the Acura of Halsmer and Schmitt. They stayed at the top until the final half hour of the race, when the Budget Rent A Car Mustang Cobra R took over.
With four laps remaining, the Mustang pulled off course and stopped, allowing the Acura, now with Schmitt driving, to move back into the lead to take the win.
Finishing in third behind the two Honda of America Racing Team Acuras was the Lexus IS300 shared by Team Lexus’ Andy Lally and Chuck Goldsborough.
“That Honda just keeps on running, and that’s how we beat those guys” commented Halsmer on defeating Team Lexus. “We can’t run away from them, but we can run with them, and if they have a problem, we just keep going. We did that today. It just ran like a top.”
positronically,
