Is this noise a timing belt?
I started hearing it recently (it's been warm the last few days 20's, and humidity is up). I don't hear it when starting up the car, but when I'm driving (regardless of speed), and I accelerate, I hear that high pitch whine from under the hood. It reminds me of my friends car when his timing belt was getting worn. His would only do it when he started up his car though. Mine seems to do it when it's accelerating. At idle, it's silent.
I'm still trying to fix various parts to this car I just bought. Any help would be appreciated. It's still winter so I want as much fixed before I start running hard in the spring/summer.
thanks!

it's more than likely an accessory belt, probably alternator unless it happens when you turn sharp sitting still too. The reason it went away for your friend is because after the timing belt was changed, they put all the drive belts back on and put proper tension on them. Make sure all belts are tight enough. I usually go by this..if you can twist the belt with your hand more than 1/2 circle, you need to tighten it. You don't want them TOO tight though.
if your gonna do one do them all, it's probably not the timing belt. Most likeley that pesky alternator belt but as above said try belt dressing and check the belts to see if they are glazed and or cracked, if so replace as necessary
