check engine light, but no light from ECU?
hi, i'm doing a 92 b18a swap into my 89 crx dx auto. i switched from an auto to a manual. i can get the car to crank, but i'm getting no spark, and my fuel pump won't turn on. but the thing that has me puzzled is...i am getting a check engine light, but my ecu light isn't blinking or anything. i'm using an obd-0 pr4 ecu. is there any way to check if the ECU is dead? please help me.
k let me see...
u using a PR4 (88-89) ecu on the B18A engine?? hmmmm
then if ur fuel pump and spark its not available, the first thing u gotta check its the main relay.. means its not turning on... wich means u gotta check all ur yel/blk cables are wired properly...
go back to the MPFI conversion... also make sure all ur wiring its on the right spot...
BTW its ur dizzy wired ther right way? i thought u couldnt use a OBDO ecu on a OBD1 dizzy.....
just a few pointers...

ok...i am using a 91 pr4 ecu ls ecu. i am using an obd-0 dizzy. i just checked the wires going into the main relay, and the only one that gets power with the ignition in the on position is the yellow wire. shouldn't there be other wires getting power?
check engine light on, with code 0 or no code usually means the ecu is bad, download the crx workshop manual, there is a whole flow chart to follow to which has several things you should be checking also.

but i thought 90-93 tegs are OBD1
and 86-89 are OBDO
unless u got a 89 ecu with a 90 date in it?
and OBDO dizzy wont work on a OBD1 ecu
its just weird! how u would be using a OBD1 ecu on a OBDO electronics car

umm sorry dont mean to be a dick, but i have to correct you. 90-91 tegs are obd 0, 92-95 is obd 1, and 96+ is obd 2. i know this because the ecu plugs into the stock ecu plugs, and my 89 dx is obd-0. the distributor is obd-0 and i know that because of the white plugs.
does the ecu ground HAVE to be hooked up directly at the thermostat housing? because those 4 wires that come together wouldn't reach my thermostat housing ground, so i grounded them to my chassis instead. would that make a different at all? doesn't seem like it would, but let me know. thanks. glad i could clear that up for ya by the way man

download that, go under 'fuel and emmisions' -> troubleshooting -> self diagnostic procedure, then to page 6-21 and follow the flow chart, see if that will find the problem...

whoa man, thanks a lot. i already had the manual, but i haven't even seen that part. thanks a lot. i'll try that and see if it works.
yea sorry man i only can post 5 times a day(bearsek) this is my friends account so i couldn't post under my account bearsek but i wanted to get back to you asap. I think it should be grounded to the motor and i think that is why is is such a weird problem because bad grounds can cause weird problems. try that (Bearsek)

I had the same problem with the same swap check all the grounds and make sure
the block is grounded to the body like the one that goes from the valve cover to
the body on your old dx engine. Solved my problem.

ok, i'll check those out fo sho, ill post tomorrow on results. later guys, thanks for the outpouring of help, H-T IS THE BEST!

my 89 integra computer has a constant CEL with no code. but when a problem is present, it'll always show the code on the ecu. i deal with it because this ecu runs 200% better than the Zdyne i had. so i don't think my ecu's bad, but i can't explain (nor can anybody else for that matter) the constant CEL either...
hmm its late, like 2:45 here and i think im gonna go to bed, but im waking up early to work on the car and hopefully i will find these bugs in my car and start the thing for once
...hopefully i find the cause for this crap tomorrow.
