That is not a $55K car - it was brought from Europe and cars there can be had much cheaper than those sold by Lotus USA.

The issue is getting it here legally.

I thought that the Exige was ~$55000...I think you might be thinking of the high $20k, low $30k Elise...IDK tho

You can find them in Europe for $33k-$35K for a used example. Then you have to ship it here and do it legally.

I would think at the end of the day the conversion (by buying the car in Europe) would end up costing a total of $50K.

Although, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.... (see sig again)
