painting 4th gen tail lights
i kno this probably belongs in the appearance forum, but i wanted to just ask ppl specifically with accords, whether u have painted ur 4th gen tail lights. the orange part, if u've painted it red. and if u have, does it look good? if u have any pics, that would be great.
reason i ask is cuz i have a 92 coupe, as stated in my sig, and they dont make the 50/50 tail lights for the coupe, so i was thinkin i could paint the orange to the 'candy apple red.' but i wanna first see if ppl have done it before, and if they have, how does it look.
thanks in advance!

You could try the 90-91 Tail lights that are 50/50. I heard they work for the 92-93 coupes. My friend tried the all candy apple red thing and it was ok. Just make sure you do a lot of even THIN coats. Make sure you have a nice non-dusty area to place your tail lights. Don't apply too thick of coats like my friend did and have drip marks on the tail lights
After all that finish up with a couple coats of clear coat and you should be set

the 90-91 lights will fit, but the lock position is different. the 92-93 coupes r the only cars out of the 90-93 accords that hte lock position is different, which is dumb. o well...the tail light painint thing so far sounds like my best bet unless i wanna do modification to my trunk.
Edit: does the portion ur friend painted, match the red of the tail light that is already red? and when he uses his turn signals, can u tell its orange, or does it show up red? thanks for the info.

He ended up painting the whole tail light red
That coulda been the problem for all the drip marks, but it might not be bad if you do a good paint job on it. But no to answer your question. No orange showing anywhere on the tail light. Remember to clear coat it. <~~~ Helps keep the shine.

if you paint over your amber and red it's gonna be a lightly darker red on the turn signals then by the Brake lights because of the amber.. just ta give you a heads up on that.. you might wanna apply the coats slowly and take your time w/ it in order to see how well the 2 blend..good luck
hey spanky nice ride, especially what you've done with the taillights.
i have a 93 accord ex, coupe. looking to do what you've done to your taillights to mind. how did you do it. details on instruction would be kool, so i don't f_ck up.
thanks

I painted my 90 upper 1/2 red with the testors candy apple and they turned out beautiful. Just remember to mask off the reverse lights that way you dont paint over them. Anyway if you do few light coats, you are cool. As for long term, I am not sure, but for the price of the paint, who cares if you have to do it once a year.

686, like 93accordEX said, there aren't any aftermarket tails for the 92-93 coupes.
here are closer and clearer pics of the darker looking painted ambers that pata and i were talkin about...
4thgenaccord, patastinky is referrin to the state inspection. some states require white reverse lights. so, if you paint it to be red, then it won't pass inspection and you'll have to replace it or get some paint remover. if you still chose to paint the reverse light red, then you still have options: getting really bright license plate LED screws and wire it to your reverse OR if you have a spoiler with LEDs, you can convert your 3rd brake light to a clear reverse light. oh, i also heard of someone adding a light below the bumper.
if i have a 90 coupe, i'd go for one of these looks...
01accordv6, looks nice. did you paint the outside of the lens, inside of the lens or is that even paint? here's a 4th genner with the same idea, but uglier IMO...
OT: can anyone tell me why i can only post 5 times in a 24 hr period?
