ok I may have the opportunity to get a ZC swap for bout 700-800bucks brand new with a stage 2clutch.....think its worth it???
I'd have to install it but its pretty str8 swap...also have a d16 turbo kit in my closet that is like ready to go.....just need few minor pieces...
Give me pro's and conns of the ZC!

$700-800 is not to bad for a ZC swap as long as you don't get stuck paying $200-300 for shipping. I've had mine for almost 2 years and I've never had a serious problem besides normal wear and tear and routine maintenance. With the D16 turbo on it you can expect to run low 14's with it. I had a TD-05 12g turbo, Starion FMIC, and I ran a 14.2@ 97mph.
I've had good luck with mine. I've put about 40,000 miles, well over 50 quarter mile passes, and lots of everyday abuse over the last 4 years. It runs low 14s with the intercooler leaking like crazy. Now that the intercooler has been welded, I expect 13s easily.
PROS:
Cheap
Lots of parts cross over (nearly everything but cams).
Fun to rag on.
Revs high for the money.
Beating the B series people with the lesser motor is fun.
Fitment is perfect (except hood, but no beating frame rail, cutting x member).
Decent power for the money.
CONS:
Getting old and harder to find good ones.
Cams.
Distributors are a bitch on the ZC because the die a lot for some reason
Not a ton of power
You can search this until your fingers fall off on this board. Some people hate them, others love them. I love mine. Its simple, its fun, its cheap, and it never gives me trouble. In stock form, it was way faster than my A6 motor and waaaaaay more inspiring than my Z6. It all comes down to money and preferance, but don't fear the ZC just because of a few bad experiences people have had. Most of them are good motors.

i had my zc in a 88 hf all i had was a intake 6 puck si tranny and a 100 shot of nos and went 13.2 107 mph would have been faster but i had bad tires. why pay 3000 plus for a b 16 when you will make almost the same power with less money spend on the swap you can make it a real sleeper. i had a 130 hp and i would leave b 16a in a crx bye 2 or 3 cars every time
I think my A6 was faster. I never ran the A6, but I'm not impressed with the ZC. Use the money on a rebuild and more boosting gear.
just mho
just mho
I had a ZC in my old hatch, it liked to rev high and made decent power for the money, i would suggest it to anyone, I would look around to see if you can get a better price then that, i got my engine, tranny, ecu, axles, everything for $700 Canadian.

I love my ZC.

if you have a dpfi car now id just go all out and do the b16a or b18c swap..if its a si you have then since its ease of swap a zc is koo..im doing the b series in my std hatch and zc in my crx...zc con is they are old but so are the the b16a for our ef's... also lack of performance cams...stock it will not beat a b16a in the same car...pros-cheap...more hp than d16z or y8 swap...no obd **** to wire up...no special axels needed or jdm trans unless you choose zc trans..Si is best for 1/4 mile..1/3 cost of b16a...with a mild zc with good set up in a crx you could run a low 15 at sea level...with b16a you should run a mid 14 or high 14's depending if the driver is Fat Albert or Steve Urkel
Cons:
Hideously horrible vlavetrain design!!! (How could they get it soo right on the B series and push out the ZC like that?)
Parts availability:Cams, Intake manifolds anyone??? (I know you made one Abaz
)
It's a D series
D Series trans'
Honestly, I have both a ZC and a B16, and coming soon an A6/Z6, and the ZC holds it's own. The major down fall to me is that to keep it running in race ready condition I do valve adjustments pretty much every oil change, and sometimes even every two weeks. Also the more money you put into that motor, the worse off you are, you will never match the power output of the B series givin the same mods. Given that, you're pretty much just throwing money away IMO. You also need to consider the power output ceiling of the stock internals, much more than 200 or even sometimes around, and the most common senario is spinning a rod. The ZC is all about how much you pay for it, and it's not worth any more. I can easily justify putting $10,000 into a B series, but you wouldn't catch me putting over $1,000 into a D series. If what you're rockin' is solid, stick to it and keep the money for some other parts.

Phh..come on glowing_rotors... we dont only beat 99-00 Sis..but GSRs and h22 preludes... ZC is a badass motor but like any other 10+ year old motor you gotta take care of it. I would suggest buying a ZC that was previously mated to an automatic tranny so you are assured that it wasnt over revved and ragged on...
