aight so heres tha deal. i gotta 94 ls witta grind in third gear synchro at high RPMs. someone told me that Ls integras seem to always have that problem bcuz third gear is so long, compared to GSR. is this true???? also he told me that i miind as well getta GSR tranny instead of replacin tha synchro cuz itll most likely happen again. any advice or info guys????? thanks

 

if you are going to have to replace the transmission, then you might as well get a gsr transmission. i would get the itr transmission (lsd) but then again it also costs a lot more. the civic si transmission is the same as the itr minus the lsd

 

well how much does a si tranny go for?

 

I'd say just fix the synchro unless you really wanna get a gsr tranny.. but if you're car is a daily driver.. then yeah, just fix the synchro. Don't let your friend scare you, it will last a LONG TIME before it goes out again. Good Luck.

Ahh, I see.. I thought you were gonna do it yourself.. shops usually charge 3-400. That's cool though, if you're gonna race out your car, gsr tranny is a lot better anyways.. and if you have the money, an ITR tranny would be even better than that

 

I believe the best tranny for the money is the S4c(99-00 Civic Si) tranny, but noone's giving them away that I know of, and they can be a bit tough to locate. That, a GSR, or a Del Sol tranny is what you should be after if you're upgrading it. Otherwise a diff. b18a/b tranny could probably be located for about the same price, but then of course that's a gamble too.

By about the same price I mean about the same as the repairs to your current transmission.

I believe the S4C has the same gearing, just lacking the LSD of the ITR tranny, and for the cost difference you could probably add a much better LSD than the helical that the ITR tranny comes with. IOW it's not worth it IMO. THere's a GSR tranny for auction here:
