all motor s2000 performance, ideas?
Ok. So my brother has a 2002 S2K. How far can we take this car w/out lowering compression and boosting? He's very concerned about blowing his car up. To make things worse, his daily driver is a 2001 audi S4, and he's considering buying an EVO 8. As much as I drool over an EVO, I would cry if he got rid of his Honda. PLEASE do not post about the S4, he's getting rid of it as soon as his warranty runs out. Any suggestions?
If boost is the only way, somebody please let me know

Instead of going the usual intake/exhaust route, I'm gonna' swap in a higher 4.44 final drive from J's racing. If I remember correctly it gives the S2K 8% better acceleration.
I think some people use thinner gaskets to get higher compression, toda cams, cold air intake, some head work and you should be at 280hp or so....
Read the Car and Driver article in the February issue about the Boneville Saltflats. Theirs is all motor and i think they got 255hp at the wheels.

no.
In theory the gears being 16% shorter should mean you could accelerate that much faster through each gear. However traction takes a huge toll from a standing start. It's a road racing based mod from J's perspective and should be treated as such.
However it's going to be the best bang for the buck other than Nos which takes it's toll and runs out.

S2000 needed good tires and suspension (ofcuz as well as power) but the thing is , I have seen good drivers who has a set of suspension and tires can do much better laptimes than FI S2000.
If you are planning to do N.A. Here's my suggestion :
P/P head
Cams
I/H/E
JDM Pistons w/thin head gasket
ECU upgrade
Balance and blueprint the engine
Knife edge the crank
The above setup with good tuning you will be able to see 230-240whp as a minimum.
Good luck

visit the s2ki.com forums, their board is purely for s2000s in the "under the hood" section there are many knowledgabe people there i'd reccomnd taking your further questions over there.
i would agree with what the people have said so far.
on the intake choice, however; be careful what you choose. For me, the AEM intake sits WAY to close to the ground, and i know several people who have had water sucked up, one ruined the engine
!
Comptech looks beautiful, however installing the cone onto the tubing can be a bitch... The RS*R exhaust sounds AWSOME. be careful because it melts your bumper tho..... got a 2'' hole above exhaust tip.
but yes
i'd say..
i/h/e/
j's gears
toda cams
vafc
for a start....
Im hopefully going to get up a video of freinds S w/ comptech cai + RS*R exhaust !
power baby !

nice !! RSR is back in NA !
i wanted to buy a couple things from them but when i got the money, they stopped distributing to NA a few years ago
now on their web site : "The original RSR from Japan is back in the United States... and we looking better than ever!"

What I am saying is blueprint the engine when you balance it.
If for drivetrain upgrade I will suggest the follow as well :
-Final drive (J's or ATS)
-chromoly flywheel
-hi-grip clutch (I prefer something stock pedal feel)
-LSD (which the stock one really suck IMO, I like 1.5 or 2 way better)
-balance the propeller shaft as well ( this will elimiate vibration and sound from drivetrain)
-transmission and diff mounts (you will definitely notice a difference)

Does JUN not make stuff for the S2K? I remember that was the $hit to have for the 99 and 00 SI. I had their stage 3 cams, valve springs/lifters, header and flywheel. I really haven't seen anything for the S2K? Are they still around. Once I made the Civic stock again and sold it, I strayed to the German side, (00 GTI 1.8T and then got the 00 A4 1.8T) but recently came back to Hondas. There was so much tuning ability with those two cars, but I had alot of relaibility issues with GTI, traded it in for the A4, and started having issues with the Turbo and 3 bad MAFs in 8 months. So back to the Honda. From what I have read, unless you go FI, there isn't too much that can be done to the car. Been reading alot of posts on S2KI.com, and most will say that for what you spen on and I/H/E, you might gain 5 hp to the wheels. I remember JUN did the shoot out and went all motor, and beat the turbo kit from Greddy and SC from Jackson Racing.
I wish jun made cams for the s2000....
I talked to the rep of jun na in summer of 02 and they didnt even considered the s2k to be in there todo list.....
Too bad that jun is no longer here in america.....
I guess the next best thing TODA...
I dont know about the crower that is suppost to come out soon?
But thats just my opinion.....
