i dont' know too much about the 5th gen. but to my knowledge, ther are the SS-auto 5th gen, the base prelude, the SH and the normal. ther is no Type S auto unles you mean the SS. any how that doesn't seem too bad for a 99 ' lude. just check it out for normal driving stuff.

Check the oil level, some H22a burn oil and some don't. It's not a bad thing, it's just the way the motors are. Also, make sure that your cousin knows that the SS tranny won't hold up to any mods beyond bolt ons.

A lot of people call the Base model a type S. Cause it is the S model and the SH is type-SH

i didn't know they called the base model a type s until now. i thought he was importing a type s from japan.

p.s. : get a stick, you'll get laughed at driving an auto lude.

People call the base a TYpe S? I find that amusing for some reason. Unless it has a jdm motor strapped in and or has right sided steering I don't consider any prelude a Type S. One thing that was sexy about the Type S was it had Climate control. ::SIGHS::

and Type S has the red valve cover, Type SH and base as the standard black top.

Well, actually today I just bought a 98 Lude SS, now before you say anything about the SS, just think if you were 6'5 in a lude and had to use a clutch all the time.... I had my choice, and due to the fact that I'm not going anywhere farther than bolt-ons than it suits me fine... and I don't think anyone other than online would attempt to laugh at me..
P.S 98 Prelude SS one owner, 56k miles, honda certified til 100k 13.9 out the door.

Big time common mistake. The base model is not a S model, nor is a Type S model. It is a base model thats all its called. If it has the electronic sport shift then some people call them SS but its still a base.
