Default VSS questions about location and function

k as far as the searches i have done in the archives it seemes the VSS its located behind the Cluster... and sends a signal to the ecu and tells it the car its moving...
whats the thing on the tranny in wich the speedo cable gets plugged into???
any name for that?
k heres the deal... today on my way to meet a buddy , my speedo started jumping and a few min later its stopped working... i tried a few times to make sure the cable was inserted and it was... i dont have a pin since i lost it when i swaped (but never game me prob on the last 8 mths) anyhow.. i played with it a lil and the metal tip of the cable its a lil loose of the cable black cover itself.. i tiighten that and inserted it... the cable its inserted.. but doesnt wanna work..
have u heard or seen that the place in wich u plug the cable goes bad??? do i have to use my Si or STD tranny plug thingy in order to make my speedo work?? bc i turn the cable by hand and it moves..... i drove for a while and didnt work... 2 hrs later i leave and it worked fine but ust jumped a lil.. but 10 min later it stopped working
any inputs on this case... i know i need a new speedo cable if u have one, or can get one PM me and give me a price, thanxs

any input will be great

this is what you do, take the cluster out and run the car with the cable connected to your tranny...see if the cable turns while you're driving...if not, just push it in some more or replace your cable and get a clip.

the vss is the thing that sits in your tranny that has that cable connected to it.

I have read that almost any (dseries and bseries) vss's can be swapped, obviously only if its the right kind for your application (mechanical should be swapped with a mechanical, electronic with a electronic). I guess what I'm saying is that you shouldnt have a problem swapping your dx with your si.
