Default Painting a lip with a spraycan & clearcoat?

First off, Ive never done any bodywork, so I dont *really* know how much all that **** costs. I assume to paint a lip would be like $100 or so?

Well, if you had a can of primer, your paint color, and clearcoat...couldnt you just spray it yourself? Sure there may be some dripmarks or minor defects, but for like $10 as opposed to a lot more...is that feasible? Im sure you could make it look *ok*...but with the clearcoat on properly, wouldnt it shine like the rest of the bumper?

Im asking this because I have no idea if its do-able

yes. Degrease the lip, sand it, base coat it, 3-4 light coats of paint, clear coat it about 5 times.

Interesting...and if worse came to worse, all you have to do is strip it again and take it to a paint shop

If the lip already comes unpainted and primered, ready to paint like a Comptech lip, I wouldnt even have to sand it/primer, correct, just paint & clearcoat?

pretty much that is correct, but the quality of paint u get at a body shop will be much better than something you can get at kragens in a spray can ya kno? I have used those import auto spray can things from kragen's and it was a pretty close match to my oem paint color but not perfect, so don't expect the match to be perfect. Also you have to be particular about the clear coat you choose i hear. Cuz if you don't supposedly certain clear coats fade more quickly or differently so that after time, the difference in color between say the lip and the body will become more noticeable.

But if you check my profile you can see how i painted my side skirts and door side moldings, and how well they match the body. Does this help you at all??

I think the only thing to be concerned about would be paint chipping from rocks, etc... Usually there is a flex additive used in the front bumper area paint to reduce the hardness of it. When I had my lip painted I paid a couple extra bucks to have them add this to the mix...

The color code matched spray paint from Advanced auto parts works real well Just take your time and do it right and it will last.
