Nos on d16y8????
I got my car dynoed today and it was a sad day for me. I give the numbers later, but I wanted to ask a couple of questions?
1) What kind of nitrous shot would this forum reccommend without blowing something in the motor??
2) I also thought of adding a crower or zex cam for more power because my car sux, what do you think?(no jk's plz)
3)Should I just toss my motor and just go dohc(b18c1), only one thing though my current motor has only 59,000 miles on it and their is plenty of life left in it?
Any serious reply's would be appreciated...
My numbers are 116.4 hp and 102.8 tq....I am very sad, so sad

If you want power for the least amount of money....go boost!
6-7 psi can give ya 170 whp and 140 ft-lbs. With that you can race built NA integra's and hold your own. Add 50-100 hp of NOS....and your set!
If you blow the motor...you can pick up a spare used one for $300-500 easy. Sometimes for free

Just save up and buy a motor swap. There is no better bang for the buck in terms of performance and reliability.
Of course what it really comes down to is, what level of performance are you looking for and what are you willing to sacrifice to get it?

i was kinda in the same dilema, my car i just bought, with 80,000...plenty life left for a honda, and a swap would be wasting my old motor, so i decided put the greddy turbo on. It costs..somewhat less than a gsr motor swap, its upgradeable, and its gonna give you the power of a b16 but the torque of a b18. For me, i got the basic turbo...as i go down the line, ill add an intercooler and such. but at least i can keep up with preludes and gsr's wihtout wasting my old motor. I think the numbers you have are prety good for a sohc in my opinion

I have been running a 75 shot, ZEX kit, on my d16y8 for awhile now. I have not had any problems so far. The mods on my motor are I/H/E, FPR, fuel pump and 2 stage colder plugs. It has been a lot of fun, but I am saving for a turbo or a swap. I have not made up my mind yet.
go b18 and sell that motor for like $300-500. since it has low miles it wont need a rebuild. someone will buy it. i stick with sohc because its cheaper, less of a demand, and i still need to work on drivin my car with the power it has before i upgrade. but it all depends on what you wanna do... track, looks, drag... or just beat the sh*t out of domestics on the freeway.. heh...

oh yeah...if your sohc motor goes bad, usually your turbo wont...just toss it and buy a new one for...
Its still gonna cost you less, but its a hassle. I took this into consideration, there is an sohc on every corner.

I would go with a Zex kit. It's cheap, user friendly and effective. A 50 shot should be fine with proper install. Later you can upgrade to a 75 shot if you upgrade your fuel system. Do a search, tons of info.
BTW: is this a 96-00 EX coupe?

what mods do you have? those number would be about right for stock. I had i/h/e/flywheel on my 99 d16y8 and i put 127hp and 110 torque to the wheels.
Ask yourself how dependant on Nitrous are you going to be?...are you doing drag or track? There are many options when it comes to Nitrous...I am a personal fan of NX Express...
If you want most of your power from Nitrous on drag...it's easy...direct port with automatic bottle warmer(very important to keep the pressure in the bottle at 900-1000psi)...and would opt for a nitrous controller (if done correctly you can run nitrous from 1500 rpms)...NX Express Kits are expensive but you get what you pay for.
One of the great things about nitrous when done corrently that it can out your torque through the roof which we all know (beside the prelude and CRV) lack in torque.
Recommended you go 1-2 steps colder spark plug on shots over 50 and upgrading internals after 75.
The great thing is that if you buy a kit and change motors to a B18C1 you can move the kit over if you want...
Just my thoughts...and one more thing...Nitrous is not cheating...if it was then so would turbos, SC and all other mods to increase O2 to the engine

it is cheating, its not fully running off regular gasoline. IMO
But if i didnt have turbo, and i took my car to the track, i would consider n2o. but for street, its just too impractical for me.

I know right. I'm sure it's almost as tiring for individuals like him, hearing about this from people like yourself. Sure a D series engine cannot handle nitrous
, nor a B, F, H, or any others you care to add right?
Put nitrous on any engine without proper install, tuning, and fuel and it will be bound for failure as well.
I'm sure cause you have two cams though everything is going to be alright?

You do understand that an engine does not run off gasoline alone, right? It needs o2 also.
Do you know how nitrous works?!?!?!
In the combustion chamber, n20 releases o2 which helps to burn the extra fuel you are dumping in. Turbo and superchargers force air in mechanically while n20 uses chemistry!
You obviously have NO idea what you are talking about.
Please do us all a favor and never post in another nitrous thread again. Thanks
D16Y8 CAN handle nitrous! I was running a 55 shot of ZEX for over a year with no problems. Mods include I/H/E, 2 steps colder plugs, and FPR.
But, I wanted a more constant power. Hence, I'm building a LS/VTEC motor right now.

im sorry that my knowlege of n2o is insufficient. BTW you left out the part that n2 condenses the oxygen molecules while releasing 1 oxygen molecule from n20 during combustion.
