Flashing Rods/Magnaflux/Shotpeen
Living in such a crap hole of a town, it's impossible to get someone to shotpeen my rods. They do Flashing (grinding down the casting marks and polishing the rods) and magnafluxing(checking the rods for cracks and what not- no strenghtening) So with that being said, is it better to send the rods to be shot peened? Or can I get away with flashing? I will be revving to 9.5k and will have 13:1 compression. I'm betting on peening? thoughts?
9500 rpm and 13:1 compression....... buy some damn Eagles, man! forged steel is where its at! this would be the only safe thing to do, but its your engine......
I understand that pretty much all stock rods are shot-peened. When you do the flashing, it basically removes whatever effect the shotpeening had on the rods, and as such if you don't do it again you will probably end up with a worse rod than if you just left it alone. I don't know how much all this is, but I think the benefits are minimal and the price is up there. Get some aftermarket rods, maybe?
