Where to find cheap parts in Hong Kong
A buddy at work is going over there for a week on business. What easily accesible stores should he hit up to get cheap parts for me ?
I am interested in parts for a JDM conversion (HID headlights), ITR momo SRS wheel, and some Mugen Parts

most of the accessible places are shops in the mong kok area, like felix, crazy racing, GT sport, etc. shop around, some are expensive, some are decent priced but not dirt cheap; prices are about the same there as in the US but you may find something
i hope you can speak good cantonese too

Well, you can find places. They probably won't be cheap if they know you are a foreigner. I did get the arc intake for 575 though from gt sport.
yea thing with HK is they wont sell the parts to you cheap becasue they know you are a foreigner!! also, they kinda tie in the prices with install so if you have no car to install with, then prices skyrocket!!! that's just how it is.....
if i were you dont waste as much time shopping for parts, look for other stuff, like clothing, cool electronic gadgets, copy vcd/dvd, and of course f00000000d

I say forget it. Your not going to get anything cheap there unless its used or they think your a local and can haggle. Regaurdless on how good your cantonese is.... they can "spot" a foreigner coming from 2 blocks away.
I say just load up on the electronics which are cheaper then here in the US. Get something not available here like a newer MP3/minidisc player or something. Or maybe a portable DVD player. Initial D DVD sets...

But if you know people, things could be had cheaper, and more choices.
Damn, that sucks then.

Plus, HKDM appliances run on 220V, so you'll need a voltage converter (unless it's built in) and most of their camcorders are for the PAL system.
Big exception is mobile phones, you can get the latest/greatest tri-band GSM phones there about 6-12months before they hit the US market.
IMHO, Hong Kong is best for food, designer clothes & Cuban cigars
last time I went designer clothes were more expensive there then here in the states. As for electronics.. they were always cheaper unless they recently changed that. Before.. electronics were a good 30-35% cheaper compared to the states and no sales tax. I bought my minidisc player for $120 usd.. which sells here for 159 plus tax. I also got my disc at 75 cents each. And blank DVD's were just 1.20 each.
There are TONS of HID kits available in HK right now. But most of them are Taiwanese/Korean made. Compare with the same kinda stuff u can find here, sure they're cheaper in HK.
Cell phone wise, DO NOT buy Ericsson T66 or T600. They don't work well here in North America.
Agreed with Kengs VERY much. Try different kinda Chinese food. No matter it's seafood or not, cheap/ expensive. Stinky to-fu are my favorite(I think they smells great).

Yeap, you're right.
If you want car parts, better ask chinese friends in HK to buy it for you, it will be cheaper. Some of them get dirty cheap that you don't believe.
If you want to get JDM conversion kits, there are so many in HK and cheap with less than 1K US$.
However, 98spec HID kit is expensive as so many people looking for. However, you got to consider that can you bring it back by yourself, it include cover, 2 fenders, bumpers, headlights etc, it cost.
If you want 110V elec. appliance, ask your chinese friends to bring you to those shops that specially sell these goods. However, if you're visitors, you can never find it. It's not in mall.

yea, like what Kengs said, mobile phones, PDa, digit cam. If you like comics, there are plenty of it. You can find this Initial D alike comic in the newspaper stand on the street. When I went back last year, all I did was take pics of cars in the parking garage, look at girls, and EAT !!!!

Er, electronics are not that cheap in HK either - especially if you want a factory warranty...you do save on sales tax (none in HK)
