Default Need Everyone's Help - Should I buy an EF? or hold out for an EK? or keep the DA? no 56K!!!

Well here's the story:

I bought a '91 integra 2 years ago and proceeded to mod it as usual. I decided that the average intake/exhaust was a waste of time and money for power gained so I jumped right ahead and started planning a swap/build. Not to mention the b18a was burning oil and had low compression in #3.

Here she is:

Last summer I built a b20/vtec with brand new bottom end (12:1 endyn pistons, eagle rods, blueprinted block. ported head, reworked combustion chambers, CTR cams, ITR intake mani and TB and header, the works) And not more than 5 months after it was broken in I came to the determination that I was burning oil and it was not due to the rings.

HEre she is during the surgery:

And the donor:

And during recovery:

I ordered a ITR intake mani and TB and pulled the head to make installation easier AND to check the headgasket. I previously had a b16 intake and Tb which is ridiculous!!! so I was very excited to put this new equipment on. Found out the headgasket wasn't sealing (later realized it was on backwards, even LONGER story) and i caught a glimse of cylinder #3 with a small crack in JUST the boring layer ****!!! I was very upset and didnt even wana work on the car. Didn't have the money for a new block/sleeve job. What was I gona do?

Here's the damage, heart breaking isn't it??

Not only that but my clutch was making funny rattling noises well I guess this explains it:

The pilot bearing had broken apart spreading its ***** everywhere....

And damaging the clutch material!

It was a clutchmasters stage 3 with flywheel and I loved it. It drove nice and never slipped. I contacted Larry at Endyn and he promptly offered reasons why it happend due to poor installation which is VERY probable in these types of situations if the tranny is put on crooked or ROCKED on. However this is one job i didn't do because (another long story) i didn' t have the right tranny/clutch combo at the time of the swap so i put the stock LS in it. Well when i DID have the right tranny/clutch combo i had the Lead mechanic at Acura, who im friends with, do the work. He is by far the best mechanic for the job. NEedless to say i shipped the parts out to Larry per his request and he sent back a FULL replacement of the clutch, flywheel, and all bearings, it even came with the alignment tool.

THANKS ENDYN!!!

Moving on...

So i was looking on the net for either a new block or something to allow me to drive the car, i really didn't wana have to goto school (college) without a car however it was possible, just a BIG pain.

I found a '92 white integra with a few dents/dings, nice interior (Except carpet), and had been in a front end collision with a TERRIBLE fix job. Also needed some brake lines replaced, new masterclyinder (included with the car) and motor mount on drivers side wasn't even attached (sheared off bolts, no idea how). Well i bought it for an AWESOME!!! deal, put it this way, cheaper than a b18 block. I fixed everything, cleaned up the car and was all good.

Here she is, the daily driver being towed to her new household:

And here she is getting all fixed up along with the OTHER broken car :

Ahh the joy of car parts everywhere, makes me feel acomplished!

So now I have the silver car's chasis up for sale because I think I want something lighter and a change of scenery. I want to keep the white teg as a STOCK daily driver and another car with the b20/vtec so I can take my time with it and not have to drive it in shotty conditions (rain/snow/etc).

So I found this...

A buddy of mine wants $1000 with those brand new wheels and tires. I'm thinking of selling the DA chasis for a hair under $1000 or so and picking up the hatch. Then getting some rota's in place of those fittipaldis. This summer the hatch will get hte b20/vtec rebuilt with a sleeved block, the clean but pretty wings west kit, and possibly some new paint. I may also be able to afford the AEM EMS (lets hope). The car will be installed with a 94 GSR ECU and Harness also.

Your comments are greatly appreciated. Areas to comment on:
-My old chasis, should i sell, should i keep. IT needs some TLC to be good again
-The EF that i wana buy, its a STD, i would like to swap SI interior into it. For $1k it seems like a good deal? no rust, good brakes, imaculate VINYL haha interior
-Price for the rolling chasis of the silverish teg? how much is it work in STOCK form
-Price for the EF, like i said its in great shape 90k miles, needs a new motor tho.
-any other comments!!!
-I'm thinking about an EK, always wanted one but $6k or $1k for the difference is $5k and i could have the EF done with $5k!

I just need a car to fool around with for the next few years, I graduate in 1 year and will work for another 1 or so years before i buy another car (i think) so the EF is something to "tide me over".

I see a lot of people getting out of the scene, should i stay out of the scene or jump back in?

Thanks guys and sorry for the long post. Hope you enjoyed my story!!

I have a EF and a g2 integra. The G2 is a nice car but the civic is alot funner "more tossable" . Modding the Civic with a swap will be more noticable then in the Teg. "Weight difference" . Either way both nice cars

CWBETB:

The integra was very quick and fun to drive and that motor was CRAZY. It was untuned, running SO rich, and burning oil. I still ran a 14.6 spinning into 3rd at 100mph trap speed (prolly a 13.9 or low 14's with slicks/good sticky tires).

Call me crazy but your hatch is EXACTLY the color and way I want mine to look like, except a different set of wheels (like the rotas personaly). I actually saw your car and it conviced me that the hatch was teh way to go.

Can i ask what color of red that is or the paint code if you don't mind?

Also maybe what the body kit/ paint job cost you. Feel free to ignore my requests, however it looks like real nice paint and I'd like to know what a similar job would cost.

So pretty...

Hope you don't mind that i ganked your pic to show all.

What happened to these wheels? I liked these and would probably snach up a set for the hatch. What size were they if you don't mind?

Sorry about all my Q's, it sounds like I wana know everything about your car. I think its beautiful and it is my motivation for wanting the other EF.

One last Question: Did you swap in the Si interior? The hatch im getting is STD and i don't think it has that one piece dash running into the counsole. Never seen a pic of the STD dash.

Thx bro!!!

I would buy the EF for $1k. Looks pretty clean and a good price with the wheels and tires. EK's are nice, but if you can swap the EF for the price as the stock EK, would definately go with the EF. That car will be WAY fast with a swap because they are so light......And I swear they made WAY more Red EF's than any other color.

here is a little incentive to go with the hatch...

my friend has a 90 crx hf with a 2.0L vtec (not its nto a b20vtec as he always says ). he put down 220whp and 153 lb-ft of tq. his motor is built up a little more than yours, though.

he ran a 13.4 on street tires before we tuned it. so you could have an mid 13 second car easily...

I was in the same boat as you are. I had a 92 GSR which I loved to death. I now have a CRX with a Z6 engine. I so miss the B-series vtec engines and the style of the DA. I think the DA has a class on it's own that are so different then any other Honda. They have a certain style that just can't be compared.

EF's are fun and a great to toy around with. If I had to do it all over again, my first car would be a DA and keep it and mod it and love it forever!

thats what i wana know!!!

Huggy Bear: no thats my hick friend, im being a lazy *** at the moment (actually im probably under the car)

Racer Boy: Yeah i love the DA i just can't make up my mind. I think if i built the b20/vtec again and put it in an EF i could do 12's easy with slicks. With the DA i could do mid to high 13s maybe. I love the front end of the DA too. Actually the EF has some of the same body lines, a little different front and rear tho. I'm sure someone has done it but imagine a 2nd gen integra front end on an EF

They look like Rota C-8's to me. And I'm GUESSING that they are 16"s, but I'm not the owner so I dont know for sure.
About the topic: get the EF, and sell the DA shell.
