Default Master Cylinder

I need to replace my brake master cylinder and booster on my 95 del sol si w/0 ABS. I was wondering if anyone has used anything off of different cars? I was thinking of getting one off of a civic si or an int type r, if it would work. I was not sure if there are any conflicting details I need to look at because the type r has abs. Also any increase in brake performance with a different master cylinder. Right now I notice that my brakes don't have very good modulation and was wondering if any of that can be solved with the cylinder.

You need to make sure you get a master cylinder and brake booster that match. I would suggest a 94-up RS integra or a Non ABS EX civic. Don't put a non ABS master cylinder on a ABS brake booster, the brakes will be on without pressing the pedal. Also the ABS and nonABS have different locations on where the two brake lines come out.

Right on. Get a 15/16 MC Non-ABS, that should bolt right on withough having to flare your lines.

This is all fine and dandy, assuming you have teg front calipers and rear discs. No one bothered to ask if your braking system is upgraded. If it's not, there's no reason to upgrade the MC

That's a negative. There's no reason to upgrade to a larger master cylinder/booster from a teg if you have stock 9.4" civic brakes. It can actually hurt performance. Don't you think if the akebono calipers needed a 1" MC, honda would've put one there? And how can you improve pedal feel on a stock system? They already feel as good as they're gonna get.

Not quite true, an MC brace will improve pedal feel. A larger MC will improve pedal feel and travel. SS brakelines will improve pedal feel and slightly travel.

if you ask a buddy to press your brakes while looking at the mc/booster assembly, you'll notice that there's a bit of movement even under 'normal' braking. the mc brace is supposed to take away that small bit of movement, thus improving brake feel. most all users note a difference.

Yeah it keeps your firewall from flexing as you apply the brakes.

Think it doesn't happen?

Try this:

Have someone get in your car and hit the brakes - not even hard, just push them doiwn as far as they can like if they were trying to stop.

Se that flex in the firewall? I thought that **** was just a gimmick too until I saw just how much the entire M/C and booster move due to the firewall being flimsy.

I'd like to find an inexpensive, LHD m/c brace because it actuallt does work - it's not just some JDM blinging part.

Now as far as upgrading the master cylinder goes:

I agree that you would not want to upgrade the master cylinder if you have not upgraded to bigger discs up front, because it makes the pedal TOO hard.

Now if you know for sure that shortly after you put on the bigger m/c that you'll be getting bigger front discs, then sure why not just deal with the harder pedal for a bit?

As far as which one to get goes, try this - I created a topic a while back about just this very question:

Well for all of you guys running 4-wheel discs and/or bigger front discs that need a bigger-than-stock 13/16ths M/C, there is a true bolt-in replacement for sure.

I heard a rumor that a certain 15/16ths m/c just bolted up, and it's true. I ordered one the other day and my shop put on ein a 1993 Cx hatch. It's a:

1991 Honda Civic EX 4-door master cylinder.

The part number from Honda is 46100-SH4-A11. They probably won't stock it, but it only took me one full day to get the one I ordered.

This m/c bolted right up to the stock Civic booster, so no more trying to find an Integra booster and m/c combo!

The only thing is that I cannot say which stops better - my Integra RS booster and m/c combo, or the 1991 EX with stock Civic booster because the CX we did the EX m/c on still had stock brakes to be upgraded with all Integra discs later.

The 1991 EX m/c is the same 15/16ths like my Integra Rs, but the ears are located the same as the stock Civic so there's no need for the Integra booster. the Integra booster is larger volume, but I've yet to determine if the Teg booster makes much difference over stock until,this CX guy gets his 4-wheel discs and 40/40 prop valve.

So if you want an easy m/c upgrade with no booster worries, try this one.

bro, all 94-01 integra fit as long as you get the booster also. the lines that go to the master cylinder can be bended to fit, just take your time and don't crush bend it, make sure it still flows freely. the type r one is the best if you can find one. once you put in the integra booster and master cylinder you wil get a way more firmer pedal. trust me, I did at least 5 boosters already.

Good info b18c5. I've been looking into upgrading my 92 Si's brakes (can't stand mushy brakes). But, a new OEM teg MC and BB is very expensive. I'm going to look into that 1991 civic MC. for saving me some money.

You forgot to add that you'll have to double flare (pain in the ***!) the rear most line for the ABS fitting on all of the LS, GS-R, and ITR master cylinders.

You make me wonder if you've really ever done such mods before, because if you had there's no way you would have forgotten to mention the pain in the *** double reflaring.

I just ordered a 1990 civic ex master cylinder for $27 shipped to my house from
http://www.car-part.com. They gave me a link to some junk yard and I just called them and it was like $15 price, $2core and $10 shipping....=Cheap as hell upgrade!
