Default ? Best B series Tranny

I have a B16A SiR with YS1 tranny and LSD. I am in the process of a big nitrous drag and street build up, n/a in town and alot of nitrous at the track. What would be the best cable transmission for this set up? Strongest, reliable,and gearing wise?

I think the USDM S1 is the way to go for Boost. At least that is what Ive heard. It wraps up better on the highway.

http://ff-squad.com/GearRatios.htm Have a look for yourself, and decide what kind of gearing you want.

The YS1 is the closest ratio tranny available in cable. The LSD will not carry over to the S1, J1, or Y1, as it is the newest of the cable trannies and is more akin to the SiRII hydro trans' than it is to the cable trans', the actual height of the diff. is larger in the YS1. If you want more out of it you could install a 4.7 or 4.9 final, but you'd probably want to change out 5th for something alot longer for cruising on the highway.

YS1 is NOT the closest ratio cable tranny. Thats the jdm s1/j1.

My personal trans im building is gonna sport y1 1-4th, and an LS 5th.

You can get a 4.7 final out of the integra typeR trans (98+) or a number of aftermarket companies including quaife and ATS. They also have the 4.9 available. With the type R final, you would also need to change the diff becasue the R's use a larger center diameter ring gear than what you have, I would assume that the aftermarket versions make them adaptable to different years.

Is it personal preference, or is a certain gearing better for nitrous drag racing?

i need more details on this. i am currently running a (JDM B16) Kaaz LSD in my USDM YS1 GSR trans. before i installed it i removed it from my old JDM S1 cable trans (after it croaked on me) and all i did was drop the diff into my YS1 trans. i didnt even remove the ring gear.
and i've checked the diff bearing clearances in both trannies (with Kaaz installed) and they are well within spec. so why wouldnt a stock diff carry over to a YS1 trans?

Are you guys sure the YS1 is the closest ratio? I'm not sure if my YS1 tranny is US or JDM, but my gears are hecka long. My 3rd gear is extremely long. When I'm at 80mph in 5th gear, i'm only at 3700 rpm. I've driven JDM y1 trannies and they are passed 4000 rpm at 80mph. I don't know whats up. The dude I bought it from said that it was off a 93 gsr, but my gears are hecka long. And that sucks for my NA b16.

Yeah no kidding.... if the JDM and USDM are the same, then i think your wrong. J1 nets almost 5k past 80mph. YS1s are not even close to that. I

There are two USDM YS1's...90-93 Teg LS/GS/RS and the 92-93 GSR. The GSR YS1 is the shortest cable bseries tranny avaliable. Look at the link posted by tzsir (5th from top)...the higher the gear ratio, the shorter the gear. The GSR YS1 is shorter than the JDM S1/J1 in 1st and 5th gear, but not by much. Also, tire size plays a role on the rpms too.

It sounds like you have the LS YS1.

where did u scan that from Ricodemus?
I have seen lots of different variations of these charts.
I have a S1 and I am at 4850rpms to go 80 mph, with the same tire size the tranny was mated with in the first place.
Does anyone here have a JDM YS1? if so can they tell us all what RPMs they are at to go 80mph.

The LSD in the JDM YS1 is taller on the bottom half of the diff when installing. When trying to install the the DBH1821 you would have to shim the bottom to raise it up so the ring gear doesn't hit the case and also the speedo gear grinds horribly. You don't have to beleive my bull about it, call Kazz (their importer actually) and they will give you any further info you need regarding this. By the way the proper LSD for this app is the DBH1811.

*My Official 93 GSR YS1 gear:rpm:mph field study*
I did a little research on the way home from work.
7:40PM on I-40, temp 40F, 195/60/14 tires, oem tach

45 mph
3rd = 4500
4th = 3300
5th = 2700

55mph
3rd = 5250
4th = 4000
5th = 3200

70 mph
3rd = 6900
4th = 5050
5th = 4

80 mph
3rd = 7950
4th = 5750
5th = 4700

*Note: My tach may be off a bit. My Vision chip has the vtec x-over set at 5200, but according to my tach it is at 4750...:shrugs: You can decide for youself. Hear is another little tranny spec page...here.

EDIT: Had to make a little change.
