Help me PLEASE!!!! Purchase decision.
I have the choice of 2 CW ITR's to purchase.
Choice one: 98 w/ 18000 miles and it's mint, PRICE $19500 w/ Kosei K1's incl. rubber. Car was used as a track toy seldomly throughout the years. Owned by 30+year experienced foreign car mechanic of age 55+
The guy is super cool and willing to hold until I'm ready if I give him a nominal deposit. No biggie.
I have not begun any negotiating yet.
Choice two: 98 w/ 24000 miles and it's almost as nice as choice one except for known damage to rear bumper that was professionally fixed and a gash in the front spoiler from a parking block. It is also quoted as having "24k miles worth of wear in the paint." She has a price of $17500.
Now which should I pursue further??? I have to travel to Oregon at approx. $400 for a one way ticket for the $19500 one and travel to Arizona at the expense of approx. $750 for the cheaper one.
I'm going out of my mind. If I go with choice one I will need to know tonight in order to agree upon a deposit.
CLIFFNOTES: Buy 98 ITR w/ 18000 miles that's mint for $19500 or 98 ITR w/24000 with very minor damage and wear for $17500???
Help me decide!!!!!
Thanks,

Simple in my opinion, go for option one. Supposedly totally mint and it sounds like the better deal for about $2,000 more. Option 2 sounds like there might be problems down the road.
Should be the end of February. The guy seems to be a very good person. He agreed to split the airfare with me and reflect it in the final price of the car.
Now I need to figure out how in the hell to get the thing registered and such to drive it home.
Any suggestions??

Neither, get a '97
I would get the first because it was owned by a mechanic.
Sure you can't find airfare for cheaper?

absolutely call your insurance now! you don't want to put $20k into your new R only to have it stolen/wrecked before you get insurance.
ok, enough doom & gloom. good choice!

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. The vehicle will be fully insured before I set foot on the airplane and I found airfare out of a nearby city (~60 miles west) for around $400 round trip just in case things don't work out.
I am going to also explore the options of shipping but do you really think shipping an ITR would be safe?? I'd be worried about vandalism and worst case scenario of theft.

I'd take #1.. make sure the guy likes you... cus if he decides to sell the car... he dun have to hold the car for u legally even though he said he would.. unless u gave him some money.. even say a dollar to retain the vehicle while u think bout it... business law comes in handy after all.
What makes you want a R? Just wonderin by the way. I mean there are better cars for 20grand... Or you could build the ultimate EK for that much or something... Why honda?
I've been struggling with what vehicle to get for a couple of years now and the way I look at it is that my MAIN interest is to get into some sort of competitive racing albiet autox, HPDE's, or what not. And there's really no other choice for a vehicle other than the ITR if I want to keep costs at a minimum (kind of a oxymoron LOL!)
Meaning that I can spend my money on driving schools and track time to improve upon my skills instead of dumping money on swaps, suspension, blah, blah, blah and everything else that pertains to a hybrid setup. And once you start with a swap and other things that would definitley be of my interest if I went the hybrid route you end up dealing with some major classing issues and frankly I'm a pretty competitive guy, friendly, but definitely competitive.
And I don't feel like getting my *** handed to me from all the old cats in their modified cars.
The Type R is clearly the best choice for someone who wants to get into competitive racing and be able to keep the vehicle relatively stock but still be able to do well in some races.
