Default ZC vs. B16A1

B16A1 - 160 HP
ZC - 130HP

I'm trying to decide which motor to get. If I buy just the motor, without tranny or ECU, can I use my stock DX 4 speed tranny and ECU? I need some help here!

Thanks

Those two motors are no comparison. The B16 is going to be a lot more money, speed, and expandabiltiy. The ZC is good if you are on low budget, its hard to find aggressive aftermarket parts for it. You will not be able to use your ECU for either, you may be able to use your trans for the ZC but not the B16. I would advise against it though, pick up either a ZC or an SI trans if you go that route.

Just to give you an idea:
ZC will cost over $700 easy, that's if you dont replace anything
B16 will cost over $1500 easy after mounts, axles, longblock, etc.
B16A1 - 160 HP
ZC - 130HP

I'm trying to decide which motor to get. If I buy just the motor, without tranny or ECU, can I use my stock DX 4 speed tranny and ECU? I need some help here!

Thanks

Unless they ship it free you are probably looking at around 700. And since you have a STD you will have to get the necessary components to for the mpfi swap. So I would 700 is about right.

you will also have to change your hubs also since they have differant spline counts.

Performance Engine, non-VTEC, 1st Gen, 130hp, Engine + 5 Speed Trans
ZC(DOHC) 1.6 4 $600 (combo)

I can get that combo with the ECU for 795. Is the ECU even worth $195?? I can probably get a Si ECU from the junkyard for like $50.

no, the ecu is not worth that much. try one from an 88-89 teg. and a b16 swap will cost you at least 2k by the time its all said and done.

more than that... for a COMPLETE swap, replacing everything that should be replaced it came out to $2450 (all gaskets, seals, clutch, mounts, linkage, harness, and all the other things)

U can use the ZC ECU with your Dx harness, it explains on http://www.hasport.com how to wire it. The ZC Ecu also Revs out a lil further

You can use this tranny on the ZC. I would recommend getting an Si tranny. If you get an Si tranny you can get away with using your STD axels and hubs. Your gonna need a PM6 or PG7 ECU to run the ZC because your swap is going to be MPFI. I have an 89 PM6 if your interested.

i would like to see it done right for cheaper than that ... that's just about as low as it gets.. 1099 for the engine + 250 shipping, mounts around 360 (no ac mount), linkage 150, harness 75, all the other bs stuff, around 300-500 altogether, clutch 250

the std has a different spline count as the dx, si or zc tranny along with any b series. so unless you are gonna have custom axles made with a different spline at each end i dont know how you can reuse the stock hubs? just my $.02

I am using a Si tranny in my STD no problems with my original axles. You cant use dx axles if you need to replace the originals though.

So, yes, you can use the stock hubs.

I wouldn't do a thing to that motor, U might as well buy a Sohc Vtec swap or a Ls swap. U can get both at decent prices, and what Kind of car do u have ?
