Default Oh wise D-series users can this be done? Advice requested.

I was searching for a D16a6 motor, but after researching I came across this thought

" Why not use my existing HF motor as a starting point....."

This is where you guys come in..after searching the archives I'm still a little clueless. I know that my engine's head is an 8 valve version,so pistons would have to be changed as well as the intake. Does anyone have a "shopping list" of what I should do/procure to make this a working reality? I want this to be a grassroots project....something I can have fun with..spend time wrenching on and hunting parts down at the local wrecking yard. What have you guys done with the d15 to get more umph out of it? Share the wealth...please.

Oh I want this to be a NA motor...no boost or spray. the way I saw it was the money I was gonna spend on a B16-18 swap could be better used to make it a weekend canyon carver..and if I could almost even double the stock hp that would be a triumph.

Thanks in advance

ya ll you need is the complete a6 motor with tranny and ECU. it all plugs in and bolts on. with that in there.. you can upgrade the rest as you go.

We have so many parts going to be available for the D16a6, z6, etc in the next few months, its going to be fun to build up the D series.

We have the head packages and custom cams now as well as our diff stages of d blocks. IN addition to that, we are going to carry Bisimoto D series Header as well as the SKunk2 intake manifold and Edelbrock manifold.
Also got ATS on board and the 4.9 final drive is available for the 88-91 Si cable trans. for the Hydro trans guys, we have SRR with their 4.7 and 4.9 final drive.

So theres a great selection for the D series ...

Nevermind I looked right at it and missed it. I'm a little tired.

i'd say get an a6 head and pop it on your hf. It'll be a big help, and from there, pretty much treat it like a d16, even though its only a puny 1.5l

i've read the HF block with a 16v head and MPFI swap over is a good investment. 14.xx teritory (1/4 mile). You might as well do a little bit to the 16v head while u have it out. Maybe a cheap p&p and a cam? Also d16a1 pistons from an early teg may fit? they work in the a6 and bump compression up. Might want to search more for more D-series info. hope this helps

Any more suggestions.....

So from what your saying...the HF and DX engines are the same just that the heads and injection systems are diff( rather the hf version is restricted). So correct my if Im wrong...I can add an a6(si) head, new pistons,ECU ( the usually goodies) right. or is there more to it than this ( ie am I better off searching for the a6 motor)
