whats the difference between 97 and up h22 VTEC motors and their earlier counter parts.....
like i said in the topic...i have heard things about how the earlier ones work pretty well for turbo setups and that the new ones need something done to em for you to put in forged pistons...please enlighten me...any info will be greatly appreciatted....
96 & earlier have closed deck blocks.
97 & later have open deck blocks. Either one will work fine in a turbo application. The 97 & up also have cast aluminum oil pans instead of stamped steel.

the 97+ motors (Open deck H22A4) themselves also run off an OBDII system, and have smaller injectors I believe. (Actually, the 96 motor was OBDII, but still H22A1, which was closed deck.)
The heads are the same and interchangable.
Although there has always been a disagreement on whether the base and the SH model use different cams. In the parts book they're the same number, but the argument SH owners use is that it's just cheaper to reman. one cam instead of two. This is for the 97+ anyway, so it wouldn't matter in what you're asking.

the 97+ also use saturated injectors, have a different oil pump housing to accomodate the TDC and CKP sensor placement, and full floating wrist pins on the rods.
I think he meant how can you tell the difference from the 92-95 obd1 and the 96 obd2?
