Kinda OT but i wanted to share this:i almost just passed out and died.
i was working in my garage installing my exhaust after i had to remove a inch of it because it was to long and i wanted it to sit up inside the exhaust well better. well after i cut the exhaust i cleaned an area so i could begin welding the catback back together. once it was all welded i bent one of the rear hangers using a torch to het the metal and then bend it in a vise. after it all cooled i painted it with high temp black paint to protect against rust( all of this is happening in my heated garage with no circulation besided heat at the moment) after the paint dried i bolted the exhaust up and double checked every hanger and bolt to make sure they were to my liking. then i started the car,let it warm up for 10-15 minutes and while it was running i climbed under the car to check for leaks in my welds and the gaskets. no leaks and no welds so while it was all hot i tightened everything up a little bit more that took about 10 minutes total( so the car was running for abot 25-30 minutes after i just got done painting for about 20 minutes and welding for about 30 minutes you can just imagine the fumes building up in my garage
) while i was under the car i felt sleepy and really dizzy. i decided to turn off the car, lower it to the ground, put all the tools away and call it a night. by the time i was done doing all of that i was really dizzy and my vision began to blur and i felt like i was gonna throw up
. so to vent all the built up gasses i decided to open the garage door to let some fresh air in the garage so i could finally go inside and lay down. after the door was closed and i was leaving the garage i noticed the fresh air made me almostwant to lay down in mydriveway and go to sleep in the snow(wearing a t-shirt and jeans)
i got inside and the first thing i did was change my clothes to get the smell of fumes off me and then i threw up for about 5 minutes(mostly dry heaves) then after puking i felt better but not normal so now here i am eating doritos trying not to fall asleep because im scared i wont wake up in the morning
...
on me for not thinking clearly and wanting to get it all done in a hurry when i have months to get my car set up for spring
always, always use proper ventilation(spelling) when welding, painting or running a car indoors,i told my dad about all of this and this weekend we are gonna install an exhaust fan in our garage along with hoses that can vent car exhaust by simply hooking it up to the muffler and having a rubber flap on the outside of the garage on a hinge to keep in the heat and keep out small animals/bugs/water

I'm no doctor but I think you'll be fine now that you are getting fresh air. People can die from carbon monoxide poisoning if they continue to breathe it for an extended time, and 30min in a closed garage is a REAL LONG TIME.
hey, I do the same thing all the time. I end up coming inside and blowing my nose for an hour and hauking up loogies to get the paint out of my human filtration system...lol. ei- green snot

He shouldn't be home alone after an episode like this. He MIGHT be ok, but shouldn't be left by himself because if he has a further problem, he WILL NOT be able to get to the phone by himself.

Right.

Unfortunately wrong. Carbon monoxide binds IRREVERSIBLY to the hemoglobin molecule. It commits molecular Hari Kari and destroys that molecule's ability to carry oxygen, rendering it useless for the life of the red blood cell carrying it.(about 90 days).

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that cannot be FILTERED or made nontoxic - it must be removed by VENTILATION - this is the reason that people kill themselves (either on purpose or by accident) by running their cars in their garage. You can be wearing TEN cheap respirators and the carbon monoxide will get through.
Two years ago, a volvo left running in an indoor garage under an apartment building in Charlotte, North Carolina (to charge up a dead battery overnight) killed EIGHT PEOPLE in five different apartments.
Not the same story BUT:

I found the one the story I WAS TOLD was probably based on:

They went to sleep and never woke up.
Dude. Get help - please don't be alone. At least have somebody help watch over you. Or at least for God's sake go to an ER if you're very sick. Can't drive? Call 911 - NOW.

wow maybe if you actually read this whole thread you would understand i was talking to Emerica who was refering to HIMSELF painting NOT carbonmonoxide, so please dont jump on us for trying to help someone who is dealing with PAINT not carbonmonoxide
and to anyone else who is confused NO respirators will not prevent carbonmonoxide poisoning

. honestly, that could kill you. i would have family members check on you ever half hour during the night to make sure you are breathing. better safe than sorry.
