I am thinking about getting skunk 2 cam gears for my 01 gs teg. I dont want to spend the money on cams right now b/c I am saving for some bigger and better stuff. Would these cam gears do much for me with the stock cams or are they going to be a waste of money.

 

The cam will probably still "do something" for your car but really to extract the full potential from the cams is going to require tuning. This is where the aftermarket cam gears come into play because they are adjustable unlike the stock cam gears.

In other words, just save up to get the cams and the cam gears all at once for the best bang for the buck...In addition, you will same time and money for the install since you can do it all at once.

Put it this way... it's like getting an axle back without an intake, header, or B piping...

basically, it's worthless, sure it'll dosomething if you tune it, but you're not gonna notice anyhting.

 

That's my situation... I let AEM borrow my car to develop their new CAI for it... and as a promotional "gift" they'll be giving me free AEM cam gears... And so should I wait to put it on after I get cams? My ultimate goal is to go forced induction... now I know that there have been really good hp gained w/out cams or cam gears... so should i stick to my stock cams and gears.... or since i'm gettting the cams for free... spend extra money and get a shaft???
