GS-R Fast Idle valve
Is #8 in this picture the fast idle valve? I need to order one and I don't have my manual with me.
Any help is appreciated.

if you still have an idle problem .. you can try turning the Idle Air Screw on the TB clockwise
I'm not really sure this is the problem. The symptom is that I get differing idles at different times. It may idle at 1200 on one start, but after shutting off and restarting it may idle at 800. Whereever it idles, it idles steady, but its idle point is not consistent.
Ideas?

Try cleaning it and see what happens. #8 is a picture of the IACV though.
I would also check the throttle plate.. Sometimes it can stick aswell... I've seen them clog up a lot more than IAC's... Peace
If im not mistaken... from a cold start it is designed to idle a little higher than normal and then it gradually comes back down to what you have your idle set to by the Idle air screw....
i dont remimber why exactly ... but coolant flows throught the IACV.. maybe the cold coolant has to warm up ?

zilverz are you talkin about the FITV??? That's what does exactly as you are talking about.... while the motor is cold cold coolant flows through the FITV which keeps the valve in it opening bleeding air around the throttle plate therefore raising the idle a bit... As the coolant warms up the valve closes and the idle goes back down to the idle... At this point NO air should be getting bypassed the throttle plate... You are correct about the coolant flowing through the IAC and that is just not let it freeze in cold temps... If it freezes there is nothing to control you idle... Peace
If NO air was bypassed around the throttle blade, you would stall. There is however a screw affectionately called the "Idle Air Bypass Screw". This is used to set the Curb Idle Speed....which is what your motor idles at when the IACV has been unplugged. There is also a Throttle Blade Stop Screw, which is set from the factory to keep the butterfly from rounding out the throttle body bore. If you mess with this screw, you are messing with the TPS adjustment to.
If NO air was bypassed around the throttle blade, you would stall.
IF you have a SAFC or VAFC ... there is a Throttle Voltage reading ... to make sure the throttle plate is set correctly it needs to read .45volts with the pedal not pressed at all or im sure you can test it at the sensor as well .. .but my SAFC is HANDY !
I dont if thats your problem or not but but the Fast idle air valve is located under your throttle body , its upside down under neear the #13 bolt !!
I checked to see if a 98 LS mainfold had it and it did !!
I relaced the FIAV on my 90 TEG ( different mainfold) cause the idle was bouncing up and down until the car warmed up to temp.
