Comptech flywheel broke!
After the difficulties in getting my car started up and strange noises when shifting, I finally had the car taken in and tranny dropped to find out what the problem was. Turns out my new Comptech flywheel was coming apart. The ring gear on the flywheel had broken loose and would grind terribly when trying to start up the motor and would make noises when driving when it actually did start up.
Definitely not happy with this as Comptech was the one company I figured I would not have any flywheel problems with. This also made me miss the track event at Cali Speedway and I'm out my non-refundable $190 entrance fee.
But at least Comptech recognized the defect, and is shipping a new flywheel (I hope they checked this one) overnight to my Acura dealer and will be installed free of charge. Still, the missed time and lost money is not acceptable. This is definitely not good news for Comptech especially after also hearing they just had a defect problem with their catback systems.

what was the defect of the cat back system?
I know 3 people that are using the cat back system on their ITR's and have had no problems.... Is this resent?
And what did they state the actual defect was?

On the catback there was a certain production run where people had problems with something inside the resonator coming loose and causing a rattle. I don't know exactly what period of time that these defective exhausts were produced though. There are a couple members on my board with the problem.
reason I'm asking is because I was thinking about getting a comptech flywheel... I do know of a '97 Type R that had a comptech fly wheel installed and never had a problem with it... he even tracked the car on occasion and always spoke highly of it......

It's at Tustin Acura again unfortunately, but it had to be because they did the install originally. But I talked to the service manager there and told him my concerns with the last time they had my tranny out and he said he would take care of it and put the right guy on the job.
edit- Also this was the reason why I missed the Fuddruckers meet

That's what I don't get. Since it was the newer model I don't understand how it could have came loose like that if it was indeed one piece. But I didn't inspect it for myself that's just what the service guy told me on the phone.

All you have to do is be honest and calm and Bob at Comptech is a really cool dude. He has rocked at Supporting the 2003 Expo too.

No pic, I have no car so I cannot get to the dealer to see the flywheel. I'm just relaying what the service guy told me on the phone. I will call tomorrow to see if they still have the flywheel so I can get pictures of it. I'm sure Comptech has already asked them to send the broken flywheel back so they can look over it.
But I do commend Comptech for sending an immediate replacement overnight and funding the dealer for the install.
