Doesn't retain the factory upper shock mounting points, it shouldn't be legal...

By the way, that intercooler looks GREAT

Thats adrians car which used to be an outlaw car. Somehow he was able to show up and compete in the hotrod class for the nhra season finals. He was not able to qualify, but I still dont know how it was ok for him to run. Maybe it was because he wasnt there on saturday, but came for last round of qualifing on sunday? You gotta love how piping doesnt fit, so they just turn the intercooler sideways to fit.

Kinda, cars of that level should be built right. Maybe that's why that car has never really run worth a ****...

Thats true, maybe they were out to do a little testing and tuning on the suspension and they just needed the motor to make decent power? who knows?

agreed it looks like garbage. If my car had an intercooler mounted like that my customers would think they were going to get the same piping. I would have trouble selling piping kits thats for sure!!!

Sometimes the ends justifies the means. Either way I wouldn't let it be out in the open for pics like that.

That car has a history of high hp, If I remember right, when the Doc had it he made record hp with a lude in it. Adrian did the same when it was all ls.

My old car (sigh)...they pretty much hacked it up by the way it looks. By the rules I believe they state "must retain factory upper mounting point". Im assuming that means the original frame. He should have left the frame in, tied the cage into the shocktowers then cut away the excess. Technically it could have passed.

I'm sorry, but are there any pics on what would be legal anywhere. I need to know what I can cut and what I can add. It's hard with-out any references.

As far as I know, Adrian made 1 or 2 passes with the Hot Rod class, but they were just testing passes. Car did not pass tech for Hot Rod.

Sorry, Earl, to answer your original question........No, this front end is not legal for Hot Rod in 2003. Gotta have the original strut towers, unibody from firewall to front side of strut tower. Must utilize original upper mount, original mount for control arm. Can cut off everything in front of strut tower, use tubing to mount rads, intercoolers, whatever.

Unlike All Motor, there is NO weight penalty for "alternative" construction. It's either Hot Rod, or it's not.

If you can custom everything in front of the shock tower can you say eliminate the chassis motor mounts and custom something that can connect to something coming from the shock tower .Just need to move the motor a little further back .thanks jim -pdang

Dang! Everyone is really into bashing this car. Some people want to compete but don't have the money to get it all right the first time around.

If you notice, it looks to me like there would have to be an extra drastic bend in the piping to clear the chassis in order to make the intercooler straight....maybe it proved to be more efficient this way??

If any seriousness was involved, the comments about the tires are just ignorant.

this car has been around forever. He did have plenty of time after like 4 years of racing to make a nicer pipe. I guess it didnt show to be efficient anyways cause the car did not run very well.

That is the old MSD 10 coil where you needed the Pro Power coil also. They came out with a new MSD 10 specific coil that you only need one.
