Your gonna get hammered on insurance at your age. Id wait till you turn 21. I got my bike 98 600 cbr f3 when i was 22 and im paying 220 a year liability and full was 1200. It will drop alot more once you hit 25 i got 1 more month till that
Also you gotta look at your driving record. Whatever you choose to do be careful when you get one i know its hard not to wanna floor it, just take your time and watch out for other people.

A friend of mine has some friends with bikes and they don't carry insurance at all. When a cop starts tailing them they just take off.
They are some crazy ******.
It looks like I'm going through Progressive. ~$1400 for one year of full coverage.

$350 for 15/30/5 liability only from 21st century, male driver, 22 yrs old, 1 year motorcycle endorsement, 6 years drivers license, no points on license, '99 CBR 600 F4.
if it's an older bike, just get liability. if you're financing the bike, you're going to get hosed with that idea since most banks require you to carry physical damage coverage (comp/collision).
most large companies write bike insurance. if you have your car insurance tied into it as well, sometimes you get a little brake. i had 100/300 liability on my bike, and paid about $110 every 6 months. That was through Progressive. I also fall into the over 25, single, non-home owner, no accidents, violations, braket. Good luck with your bike purchase...I'd still get insurance though. Liability insurance isn't for you, it's for the person you hit.

Just be careful they are stolen easily. My fiance had a Honda CBR F4 and it was stolen right out from underneath us. Reported it stolen and within 3 hours the cops called us back saying they saw the guys and they dumped it on the road and ran. They repainted and wrecked the thing in a matter of hours. A total of $5000.00 in damage.
Good Luck mehn! at 16 years of age, it's gonna be expensive. Give StateFarm a call, they are the cheapest one of all companies. The only catch is no coverage on Medical.
then again if you want to ride, Who needs it!

Give everyone a call... Do online quotes as well (if companies allow it). I went through Progressive. I was double with State Farm. I think it just depends from zip code to zip code, coverages, bikes, etc...
Also, there are some speciality insurance companies (might check in the back of a bike mag).
Good luck!!

I just turned 18 and have been lookin around for insurance on a bike and from what i've found progressive is the cheapest. And bein that your 16 they might be the only ones to cover you without going on high risk, I checked progressive for a 2001 sv650s for myself and its about 800 a year for liability with comp. It seems like a lot but compared to most other companies its nothin...
man I wish my insurance would be as cheap as your guys. I have I think 1 point on my license and im 23. As of right now I do not have insurance but it would have been smart considering I got hit this summer and the person ran so I was stuck with the bill. Insurance quotes that I get all the time are $8500-$1000 a year thats full coversage and LIAB is only 3500. Either way I dont want to even try to spend 10k a year on insurance. Im thinking about putting LIABILITY on it this year though, but then agian we all know LIABILITY only covers the other person....so that usually means that I hit someone and in that case I would probably be dead anyway so really know use to get liability...but I think I only say that cause of the prices. If i could afford I would get full coverage no doubt. BE SAFE RIDING!!

yup..insurance will get you. I have a clean record (knock on wood), so my rate was somewhat reasonable. Also, I had the vehicle parked at home in the middle of "suburbia"....not downtown, or at an apt., etc.. That will help as well. Good luck! Just don't be dumb and not ride without insurance. People need to realize, insurance isn't just for you, insurance is for the person you might hit. Think of it from that perspective.
Just got my 4th bike and looking around for ins. Almost **** my pants at the # they giving me. The lowest quote I got is 60 a month libility and 350 a month full coverage. Its used to be 60 a month full coverage 2 years ago when I last have a bike, I'm like WTF happen since then. My auto ins who used to insure my old bike tell me " we're not making any money so we just can it"
yikes. that does sound like a lot. another thing to consider is raising your deductibles, or go liability only. problem with that route is, if you have the bike financed, you're screwed. i went liability only, paid for the bike outright, and if something happened, i was on my own. saved a ton on insurance though. comp/collision kills you.
