Default **SOHC N/A guys - Represent yourself**

I'm building my B20vtec, but I don't want to get rid of my SOHC vtec because I know the potential it has. Parts are cheap, and when swapping it into a light car such as a CRX, it can rip.

I want all you single cam guys who have "built" your D-series N/A to represent and list what mods you got and what are your dyno/quarter mile numbers.

Here's what I plan to do with the D-Series:
Into 88-91 CRX
D16Y8 Head w/IM
D16Y7 Block
B16a TB
D16A6 Pistons (11:1 CR after all said and done)
LIghtened FW
I/H/E
Redline @ 8K and Vtec activation @ 5K

Think this setup will hit anywhere near 150whp? Think it'll do mid to low 14's?

*You FI guys don't count, but feel free to post*

You'll need a cam to put out any power above 7200.

what about us guys that dont have a running D?

needs to be put back together yet. going to put a cheap turbo setup on it and run it around town for a daily driver. N/A would be cool if i had money.

My sohc zc is still stock but i've got my list put together for when i get everything i'll put it in here it is:

Exospeed Race Cam (should arrive next week)
Upgraded Valve Springs from somewhere
*Enlarged Valves
Ported Head
CTR or d16a1 pistons
Upgraded rod bolts
upgraded head studs
Y8 ported intake manifold
2.5" exhaust piping

* I may or may not go with that, im still deciding

I believe thats about it, should take a while i'd say, but once its all done i'll have a sweet ride.

I dont think you should increase the valve size. the stock size will flow enough for what you are planning to do. honestly, the main problem that we encounter with the SOHC and even the DOHC setups are peoples, exhaust setup. A good brand like HKS, GREDDY will have a good efficient free flowing exhaust. the ones that cant dip that kind of money go for the muffler shop bent piping, which alot of times makes a great diff from a mandrel bent one. we did a sr909 cam in a 89hb Si, everything stock except for muffler, intake and header.
the restriction was so bad on the muffler shop done piping, especially the header to the catalytic back to the exh piping, that when we told him to change the piping to our specs, it made so much diff on the whole powerband.
...just a FYI: alot of people dont take that much time into researching on their exh setups.
oh and 2.25" is good enough for mildly modif setups.

valvetrain, we usually dont sell them separtely.. only comes with our head packages. but they are priced around $330set.

is that so? I suppose the ctr has a wicked odd stroke (well compared to the a6), nothing is finalized, ideas that'll be worked upon, thanks for the info, i'd hate to have pistons 10mm too big, i'd shoot myself

You should be easily into the 14's with slicks and a good clutch. Just watch the diff's in the tranny's. Preload the clutch slightly on launch with a 7000+ rpm launch and you should get very quick times. A friend of mine has a 93 si hatch with the engine unopened and with I/H/E and Fields VTEC controller. With slicks he is running in the 14's. On nitrous he has hit a 13.6 and then blew the diff.
(wasn't preloading the clutch- just 7500 rpm side step!!)

Good luck to ya.

eg6ajk, again that is one sweet looking motor. What paint did you use to paint the valve cover? Was it the paint for summit racing? Are you gonna keep it stock compression? Post some numbers and keep us posted.

Before I did my swap I had the D16Z6 in my civic EX. I read all over that GUDE makes the best stuff for a single cam honda, so I tried it out, and bought the bullfrog cam and the ECU program to match it. The difference was pretty significant, but I would suggest raising VTEC point by quite a bit, it REALLY bogs down hitting vtec. I would also invest in the ZC cable tranny, if you are going all motor the stock D16 gearing is really long, you drop out of vtec after every shift... Even if you took your car to 9200 rpms where the Gude ecu goes to. Hope that helps, with just that stuff and basic I/H/E you can hit mid to high 14's.

well i know im gone get flamed for this(probably not from you guys) i spent about $10,000 on everything

$7000 for engine
$3000 for turbo stuff (the turbo by itself was $1400)and i still have to make all the piping

when you want to be different it aint cheap....but its kind of fun

but the reason i did it is becasue all i see is Swap this Swap that.....you want an ultimate sleeper, Pop your hood and show them a Single Cam....thats the best reward ever......blowing the doors off an integra or an SI and the they ask"what do you got" ohh its just a SOHC NON-VTEC....they get kind of mad thinking im lieing....

as far as timeslips i havent gotten to the track yet....since SB is kind of far from LACR....soo and i have been working on a few different engines for friends....DAMN LS/vtecs....

as far as WHP. im shooting for 350-400, the motor guy built the motor to reach that with reasonable boost....9-14lbs.....but we will see....

also something to tease the SOHC boys i was doing researcha nd im sure some of you know this already but...

Sohc bore and stroke - 75mm bore - 90mm stroke
LS/vtec bore and stroke - 81-84mm bore - 89mm stroke

hmmmm now i just have to figure out the stroke of the crank and see if its on par.....and maybe all you guys out there doing mini-me swaps have already figured this its could be a Baby LS/VTEC

ohh and this is a line i tell everyone, dont underestimate the Single Cam

Cai/h/e, mugen chip, ZC hybrid tranny, 15.2@82 in my 89 Civic Si...

Built Si motor and tranny with dual carbs and much more.... high 14s I'd assume, in my 87 CRX DX.
