**Remote Oil Filter**
Does anyone have experience with them? Specifically in the 92-95 Civic chassis. I'm looking for possible mounting locations, specifics, etc. Pictures are my best friend...I'm interested in the benefits of this setup, mainly the relocation of the filter for ease of changing, and the extra oil you can hold.

My only experience with remotely located oil filters in on an S-series Blazer. The filter was factory located behind the driver's side headlamp, just barely under the ducting for the air intake/cleaner. It was super easy to get to, and simple to change, but oil got everywhere.
In an EH-chassis civic, Your best bet would probably be somewhere below the distributor or, if you were going really remote, to the left or right of the radiator. You'd get a cold-filtering thing that way too

Nice IKEA rug.

Back to topic...I found a web site, Perma-Cool. They sell a "universal" kit that supposedly fits 98% of all vehicles. It would cost around $50 bucks...What I need now are some possible mounting locations from people that have already used one.

Isn't it bad to mount it a little bit higher than where the stock location is due to trouble with oil travelling against gravity? Because, with my new motor project, I wanted to get the Permacool.. which is a damn good system BTW... and I was just going through hell to find a place to mount it and be safe...

I saw a review on the Hybrid board where someone mounted in behind the bumper, where the windshield fluid reservior usually goes. Great location, but I was worried about bumping a curb and knocking the thing loose. Seemed too problematic to mount in that location....I haven't heard anything about mounting locations specifically, but the gravity thing makes sense...

I'm not positive but I don't believe you can change the fram with a Hamp unless hamp makes filters with standard fittings. The remote mounts from perma cool are designed with the fram filter. You could probaly replace it with a filter from quakerstate or bosch thats the same as the fram part# I use a fram PH8A which is a mustang filter

Is it possible to overcool your oil?
Well I saw on the site that if you are using an oil cooler, and the temp is too cold outside, there is a thermostat bypass that routes the oil either through the cooler, or not. Of course this piece is sold seperate.
Hey QWCKVTEC... you have never had any problems with the filter being located way up there? I didn't know if there was enough pressure for it to be safe there... let me know, because if it works perfect then Im gonna be happy once my new project is done... that makes it basically effortless to change your oil man...
No problems, the only thing I recomend is wraping a plastic grocery bag around the filter when changing the oil. There tends to be alot left in the filter. The kit uses a ford f-150 filter, about twice the size of a stock honda filter.
