My friends EG hatchback was stolen today from Irvine, CA. He was letting a guy test drive his car beacuse he was trying to sell it and they were getting out and the guy took off with his car..

This is the second story on honda-tech that ive heard about someone stealing a car while test driving it.

Future reference: When letting someone test drive your car, be sure to ask them for their license. Dont tell them you will need a copy of their license until they arrive (helps them not make a fake one) If they say "I dont have a license, i left it at home. Tell them to go home and get it, or buy the car without driving it. Also have a few friends with you.

This had got to be one of the most fucked up things Ive heard in a long time. If I ever sell my car and let people take a test drive Im gonna get a gun pull it out and say "If you try to steal my car at any point in this test drive I WILL shot you in the face!" and that should detore any wouldbe theives.

 

I second the license thing, always, ALWAYS, ask for their license before they drive, and a second ID to verify, then hold onto the license during the test drive...or even better leave their license at home with someone, if they force you out of the car and try to get it back, it's not on you, AND yes do have some family/friends around in case, never transact alone if possible. BTW how did this guy get to your friends place for the test drive? Walk? Didn't he leave his car behind?

 

There wasnt any other car around like family or friends he couldve jumped in an attempted to go after him?
