Ethanol now legal

yes Earl...
The ethanol doesn't make as much power as the Methanol in a straight tuning session, but it makes more than gas.
The answer your looking for Earl is this:
You can run NOS with Ethanol, but cannot do it with Methanol because that would create a bomb thats uncontrolable. If you ever hear some dude running Methanol and talking abotu squezzing NOS on it too, just laugh...and get out your video camera when they punch the throttle to watch the head seperate from the block.
LOL
So there is your answer pal.
Jeff

Im not quite sure but couldnt you use the Nos as a primer? Ive over heard it somewhere cant remeber.I read the modified article on gary gardella stating that hos testing with NOS and mth didnt go to well.-pdang

not to argue with you, but please:
Show me one car that runs methanol with NOS. Proof.
You will probably see they are not running meth, but another alchohol.
because Meth mixed with NOS becomes uncontrolable.

im backing Jeff on this one, looking at there uniform properties and what knowledge I have of Chem and not to mention Physics, this doesnt look like a very stable mix, you can try to do it and see what happens
so... does that mean Bruce is running ethanol and not methanol?
...good luck getting tuning advice, its to the point now that people are swapping/removing parts from the cars for magazine photo shoots. I wouldnt be the least bit suprised if someone gets "bad advice" from another racer.
earl, you and mike are "good guys" , that may help you get the advice you need, but then again there's always someone out there who will see what you ran last year and view you as a threat.
edit: spelling and by the way-wow this post sounds paranoid!

Venom was running ethonal and nitrous. It was also rumored they were mixing in nitro as well because it was undetectable in ethonal. Either way, doesnt really matter as we are running gas next season anyways.
A friend who wants to remain stealth passed some info on eth and asked me to share it with everyone:
From what I know, it's closer to gas than methanol. Don't need big pumps or injectors, just fatten up the mixture a bit from gasoline. That's the big attraction, plus you don't have to flush the system like methanol. Non-corrosive. It's really great stuff...
You are all welcome to guess who it is but my lips are sealed

Earl great info. do you have the number for what is stoich on ethanol? I may jsut trash my idea of a meth c16 mix. Also does it have the cooling propeties of meth.

gasoline has a latent heat of about 140 Btu/lb; methanol, 474 Btu/lb; and ethanol, 361 Btu/lb
plus when you are running a 9-1 A/F ratio with ethanol VS. 6-1 with Methanol you loose even more BTUs
i guess ethanol is allright if you on a budget , but not for all-out power

on the NHRA site they claim that only cerrtain ones are legal. They make a specific mention to Parallel Products. I did a search and cant find anything about racing from these guys. I also checked and VP dont make Ethanol (or at least list it on their website). I get VP from one of my sponsers. If i decide to do ethanol where can i obtain it?
Also do you need an intercooler with ethanol?

Nitro...isnt that the fuel Rc car's run off of? Has anyone even tried running Rc car fuel in their regular car. My friend has a 5 gallon bottle of that stuff and i was thinking hmmm what would it do to my race car =P
Actually most of the quick class doesnt use nitrous.
this is a flame magnet of a comment but "in one of the new mags they said he is running a 150 shot" and making 750-ish whp on gasoline without spraying."
I can attest to the cars pull-I was the victim of that first 8.59 pass and the fishing line I had cast to the car on the starting line snapped by the 1/8 mile...haha

Check the NHRA site again. There's a phone order number for Parallel Products 800-883-9100. Or try 909-980-1200 ext 236, ask for Wayne Young, he's in the Rancho office in SoCal.
You canNOT mix nitro in ethanol undetected. Ethanol E98 is 98 percent ethanol and 2 percent "something else". The Parallel Products E98 uses 2 percent 89 octane unleaded gasoline. (Other manufacturers might use natural gas, propane, etc.) It is checked via specific gravity. Anything added or changed in the mix, changes the specific gravity and it won't pass fuel check. For the record, Venom never had a problem in fuel check all year.

Venom did have problems passing fuel checks at other than nhra events though. I saw them fail at a battle event early last year. They weasled their way out of it somehow... It does seem to me nhra is the best in testings. That same event I saw the l' natural car pass fuel check telling the guy he was using c-16 as a fuel when it was yellow in color. We all know c-16 is blue.
