Default Sunroof problems

Alright Crx Si guys... I did a search and found some ideas, tried them out, and they didnt work... I bought a sunroof off of a fellow H-Ter and after installing it I tested it out. I hit the "tilt" function and it popped up normally, but then it would not do anything else... I took the switch out and tested it and it was fine, the fuse is good, and the sunroof it' self and motor are all fine... I am thinking I lost power to the switch elsewhere but dont know where to look... can anyone help me out with this?

Have you checked all the wiring?

There's the -

- Switch
- Wiring
- Fuse
- Motor

These are the main area that you need to look at. It should not be that hard to figure out why it's not working. Are you sure that all positions on the switch are working? It's getting power, so it might not be the wiring, got it grounded correctly? If you have a fuse, is it blown? The motor, is it in full working order? If you have a test light, most of the problems you can confirm by using it. You are the only that's able to figure this out. Take it step by step.

take out the switch itself and open it up... you will see 2 copper pieces... these are the contacts... sometimes they get black stuff on them, making the contact weak, thus not allowing the sunroof to open or close... get some sand paper and sand down the contacts until they are copper again... put the switch back together... hopefully this will solve your problem... i tried it one mine and it didn't work... oh well good luck

You also ought to check the tracks that the sunroof slides on. If they are full of junk, the sunroof won't move.

seriously, check this out. If you have confirmed all the electronics, this could be a major holdup. It was for me, and I felt stupid. Clean it any way you can

I really doubt that it will be the track. The track might be dirty, but no way dirty enough for the sunroof not to move. Besides that, if it pops up, but does not move forward or back, it is most likely an electrical problem.

thats what I thought until I got really frustrated and took it to a mechanic. he cleaned it, and it works great to this day.

I suppose it could have just been dirty in places that I couldn't see really well. ::shrugs:: Mine was a little different....right after I bought it, I opened it and the tried to close it, but it didn't sit back down....it stayed up. it moved back and forth just fine, though. I was quite surprised when the mech said thats all it took.

back to your question (did we ever leave )......does it sound like the motor is still straining after it gets to the point where it won't go anymore?

white lithium grease works great for lubing up the s/r tracks. Every year I have to lube the tracks on my 91 hb otherwise it wont close on its own.
