Okay, the only factor between the two that I'm concerned about is that I want rear seating. I will be in the city next year in University and I wouldn't have a bunch of friends there to haul around, but I'm used to driving my friends around. I don't want to have to mod my CRX to have a back seat because of the added weight and drilling holes in the chassis for seatbelts for the back.

So the question to you CRX owner's is, how inconvenient is it to own a CRX?? The next car I buy will ONLY be a 2nd Gen CRX or a 4th Gen Civic Si, maybe a DX.

There is a 1988 CRX Si for sale in my area, black, 5spd, good condition $5500 Canadian. It is very hard to find a black Civic Si HB in my area for cheap. So this CRX would be good I think.

I need some suggestions, so post away.

$5500? that is a lot of money (especially if stock engine) - I would only think about that if it had a GSR in it

but I am getting a CRX, I have a Civic HB right now, the main reason I don't care much for the hatch is I never use the back seats (usually only 2 people in my car anyways, everyone wants shotgun!), they weigh more, and IMO they dont look as good

but, it is all a preference, have ur friends drive around if it's more than 2 people... can't be that hard to say u drive - if that is the cheapest u can find a CRX in ur area, I would just wait (or just buy from the US and have it shipped, they run in my area for less than 2k)

 

yeah, 5500 is WAY to much. that crx must be insane!!!
well i have a CRX and i love that fuc*er so much, but still if i was to start over i would get a civic, because of the rear seat. just the fact that you could have one. my crx is gutter and if i had a civic it would be to. but at least if i wanted to i could run a back seat. back seats are nice.

 

CRX = Lighter, better looking, rarer, has more of a cult following, but costs more to insure

civic hatch = heavier, uglier, more useful in terms of space, can haul around more people, cheaper to insure.

it's up to you.

About the V8? I don't think he was looking for a car to haul heinie in. If you want a real people hauler, get a 2000-2003 Maxima, an older Impala SS, or a WRX.

Want a fast car, get a LS1... can't beat it for dollar per hp.

 

I have owned 2 of each and I like the crx better, my 90 civic si hb with a zc didnt feel any faster than my 90 crx si with the stock motor....anyways, having only 2 seats isn't that big of a deal, if me and my friends go out I just leave the crx home and either roll in their cobra or svt contour, its no biggie to me, I don't like driving everyone around anyways and would rather roll with someone else most of the time.....puts more miles on their cars not mine...

 

ive never owned a crx (yet) but my for my car is tremendous. i love my little hatchback sitting out there. they look better than CRXs IMO. but theyre both basically the same car. so i mean, it comes down to looks and wether or not youve got friends.

Remember, thats $5500 CANADIAN (which is about 3400 US). The 88 CRX Si for $5500 is stock except a CD player and Subs, I havent seen it, just the ad in a classifieds. CRX's cost so damn much around where I live because they aren't as common. There is one for $3500 I found also, has 185000kms, black, looks like its in good shape.

So yea, my dad knows a guy who used to run a Honda dealership, so I'm getting him to check it out for me. I'm leaning towards the CRX though, I really love that car, maybe I'll buy a beater truck for the winter or something and can haul an extra *** around with me .

 

I still think that is a little too much.. u can find some in the same condition for around $2500-3000 shipped (this is american *if the buyer would ship it to canada*

how much more are CRX's to insure? didn't know that...

just have someone in the states that lives near canada give u a zip to check on autotrader

 

i've got a hatch which i love; but i still prefer the rex- u just can't beat the look & the fact that they are so light & versatile.

I love the HB and i love CRX.. i beleive they both look as bad as u want them to look..... if u want people with u , i say get the HB... i fu dont then the CRX.. they are the same car... just no rear seat a a lil longer roof... IMO go HB!!!

 

i think you should get the CRX. it looks really nice in those pics and that price isn't really that high as long as it is in good cond. w/ low miles. personally i think rexes are better looking than a hatch. i used to own a hatch and now i got a rex and i love it a lot more. plus, it is an 88(best year for rexes) Si and it is black. the 2 seat thing isn't as bad as it sounds, but it can be a PITA sometimes.

i might be a little biased though. hmmmmmm.

 

id go with the hatch. I my hatch.





Hope this makes up your mind. Plus you can put mo gurlz in the back seats.

I think the hatch looks better then the CRX, but that's just me. I also like to the fact that I have a back seat if I need it. But they are both sweet, so do whats best for you. But I love my hatch!

that is alot of money...u can probably get a good one for about 2 grand at the most...i prefer hatchbacks better than crx...you can haul more stuff like your friends and insurance is way cheaper than the rex

Yeah CRXs go for WAY more here on the market then they do in the states. Not sure why. In about 98 I saw a 91 CRX SE go for 12gs in BC. It had over 200k clicks on it (not sure what that is in miles). Never figured out why they go for so much here and not in the states. I couldnt afford one, so now Im on my second hatch. Love em. Still love the CRX too, but until I can find one for cheap thats stock si, forget it, Ill stick with the hatches. I dunno, its really up to you, however if you go hatch youll have more money for Mods!
