Default Removing wheel?

I have a 02 R6. I want to take my rims off and have them polished. Is taking the rims off fairly easy to do? Does anyone know where I can find some instructions?

Does anyone have pictures of polished rims on an r6? Or has anyone powdercoated them a different color?

TIA...

Get a service manual and a pair of stands. $99 for a pair of handy industries stands. Make sure you get the r6/r1 version

Everyone should own a factory service manual. Stands are really nice, and if you plan on working on your bike, you should pick them up..

But, if you're strapped for cash, and you don't ever plan on doing anything to your bike but ride it and bring it to the dealer, there are other ways. Primarily, if you have a garage, find the largest load-bearing rafter in the garage, preferably near the support post. Take your plastics off (wrap them in sheets, and place them somewhere out of harm's way).

Run a set of tie-downs through the front frame and middle frame (NOT the subframe). Make sure only the nylon part is anywhere near the bike. Attach all the hooks to a come-along, attach the come-along to the rafter, and hoist it up. Now get a car jack and gently jake it so the bottom gently touches the engine block (not the exhaust collector). The idea of the jack is to stabilize the bottom so the bike doesn't "swing". You don't want the weight of the bike resting on the jack.

Follow the service manual for wheel removal.

No, this isn't ideal, and yes it has many inherent dangers in it, but I did it a few times. I wouldn't try it with some big pig though, like a harley or goldwing. 400lb bikes are one thing. 1200 lb bikes are another.

I found the directions in the manual. Its still a tossup though because I kind of like the black rims. Id hate to polish them and be unhappy with the results. Thanks for the replies.
