How hard was it to get an ITR when it was new and how much did you pay?
I am considering getting an STi and am not willing to pay more than MSRP for the car. Since I bought my ITR second hand, I don't know how hard it was for some of you when you bought your ITR new. What did you have to do to get yours when it was new? Make a deposit, get on a waiting list, pay a lot more than the sticker? They are bringing in 300 STi's a month for the 2004 model year (3600 a year). That means that there will be a lot more STi's than there were ITRs. So that tells me that buying an ITR new must of been quite a challenge.
Had deposits in at four dealerships. Ordered a car (since I wanted black). Took delivery about two weeks after the order was placed - turns out the guy before me "in line" wanted yellow, instead.
Paid roughly $1000 under sticker by the time the deal was struck.

97 CW R : MSRP bought 3/97, picked up 7/97, RIP 11/00
00 FBP R : MSRP bought 1/00, picked up 3/00

I'd have to say that it was probably more difficult for the people who waited and wanted to get it from a dealer. The people that had the money right away usually found a dealer that got at least one.
went to the acura dealership to buy a gsr, had no idea at the time that the in 2000 the R's were coming back. saw the PY itr on the showroom floor and fell in love. sticker on the R was $28,995. got it for 25K out the door. best part of it was the car had 7 miles on the tach when i bought it
I was going to buy a new 01 CW but then they had a 00 PY slightly used so I bought the yellow one. No problem for me but I think the earlier years there was a waiting list.

When I bought my 98, I just happened to show up at the dealer on a day when they received two Type R's. I paid MSRP and they threw in a few shirts, some mugs, and a couple years worth of oil change coupons.
When my 98 was stolen, I had a harder time finding a replacement. I called a salesman I have bought a couple cars from, and he said he would give me one for $500 over invoice, but all of the dealers current Type R's were already spoken for.
I called several dealers in my area, and they all claimed they had received their last shipment, and their wouldn't be any more coming from Japan. (liars) Finally, I chanced upon a dealer that was asking $2k over sticker. I ended up buying it for MSRP.
I am also considering getting an STi, and I really don't think it will be *THAT* hard to get one after the initial demand dies down. Current rumors are 3-400 a month, so I think you should be able to get a decent deal on one after a few months of sales...

$100 deposit put in 12/99, received car about 3 months later.
Paid MSRP. Changed my mind from black to yellow, but that didn't speed it up or slow it down any

was looking at a silver gsr and a black ITR was in the showroom but had 60 miles, PY outside had 3 miles took that one for 23.5
Just like zer0zer0 TypeR, I too went to buy a SSB GSR. Was ready to buy, but the saleman told me that the R was coming back. Put a deposit down, waited almost two months, and the games started. The sticker was $8000 above MSRP. Another dealer offered a deal $200 below MSRP, but I wanted to see if I could get the local dealer to let it go at MSRP. They called and called, and finally relented. They were not happy.
I was happy, but others on the board have indicated that they got a lot of extras with theirs, like trunk carpet, bra, foglights, without incurring the extra charges etc.
I figure with 750+ made for 2000, and an even (?) split between PY and FPB, these would be a little harder to come by than the STi. Maybe.....

I also went to the dealer to buy a Black GSR 4dr - (Cause there was no more Civic SIs around) but none were avali at the time... I saw in the brochure a PY ITR for 2001 and asked to get it. Gave them 500 and signed everthing to order it and two months almost 3 it was here.

I would pay that much for a Subaru. Nothing wrong with Subarus.
At the time in Jan '01 there were tons of ITR's for sale in the socal area. I'm sure no one had trouble getting one at the time.

i would never pay a "maket adjustment" as they like to call em. i paid sticker for my ITR.
In December '99 in Richmond, VA it was very hard to get an ITR. Crown Acura's sales manager pretty much told me I was just not going to get one.
I ended up driving from Richmond all the way to Baranco Acura in Atlanta to get the car.

you should know to take any thing a car salesman (manager or otherwise) has to say with a grain of salt
March 31 of 01, goern-r and I walked into the Acura dealership to talk financing on a pair of R's. They had been ordered a while back by a few guys who were buddies, but they couldn't afford the final deal. There literally was a line of about 12 others trying to buy, since they were holding the cars until Friday night for the original guys. We qualified first and drove out with 2 R's about an hour later. Each paid the sticker of $24930.
Not difficult, but lucky with the timing...
Went to the dealer to test drive a GSR. They had a PY in the showroom and a black one in the back with the plastic still on it. Told 'em I'd take the black one. Paid MSRP, but got the salesman to throw in a keyless alarm/entry since it was my birthday. Picked it up two days later w/6 miles on the clock.
I needed a new car and was shopping around. Read up a little about the Type-R with no idea how rare they were. It sounded like the car for me. Called the dealership and they had 1 Phoenix Yellow. Didn't like yellow but I drove over to see it anyway. Fell in love and we bought it. So far its been the best and worst mistake of my life. I paid MSRP.
< Had no idea what he was getting himself into when he bought #0148.

I bought my 01 for MSRP. It was a simple transaction, when I walked in and said I am ready to order a Type R, he politely said we are the only dealer in the state that sells them at and not above MSRP. I said OK and left a $500 deposit on the 1st NBP they get in. They told me it was supposed to arrive in 4 weeks, for some unknown reason two NBP ITR's showed up exactly 2 weeks later
