Default Signs of Catalayic converter problems??

Besides the smell what are some other signs that your convertor may be bad? Ive got 144k on the stock cat. It stinks sometimes. And is it recommended to hollow it out or will that just hurt performance.

thx

if you can tell performance wise that you are losing power, you might wanna invest in an aftermarket one. I've heard of stock cats melting and completely restricting all air flow.

a sign of the "cat" problem is that it is still on your car... Gut it...

NOOOOOO!!! a gutted cat is horrible, it will hurt performance.

if you must gut it PLEASE weld a piece of pipe in there.

i made the mistake of gutting my cat and my MPG went from 38 to 25 and the car accelerates like a slug and sounds like a fart.

Didn't someone just post the backpressure myth today? I dont see how 2" pipe straight is going to slow down gas velocity.
