Default Finally decided on my setup and it's underway - A couple of ?'s

Got my loan , so toys will be purchased. Have a couple of questions though.

Car: 90 si hatch

Block Darton Sleeved 84mm b16
Stock head besides gsr cams
Drag III kit @.45 bar for now
Hondata 2b
DSM 450's
Jimfab Crossmember
Custom 2.5" exhaust all the way through with ES oval muffler
Fluidyne radiator may have to be pulled

I guess my questions are:
-Whats a good piston/compression?
-Should I use the stock rods?
-What kind of headgasket should I get?
-Aftermarket head studs? Which?

These may have been answered before, but I want to feel warm and fuzzy about it. Plus I want to get you knowledgeable guys' opinions. Also, this car will be a street car, but not a daily driver.

-Whats a good piston/compression?
Anything between 9.0:1 and 10.6:1 is good - just depends on how much power you want to make and how much boost you want to run and what you are going to use to tune the car...
-Should I use the stock rods?
no
-What kind of headgasket should I get?
Stock or Cometic - some people swear by stock others swear by cometic...
both are good IMO
-Aftermarket head studs? Which?
ARP are the most commonly used - I use the AEBS - I find that the design is a little better - but again either will work fine

knowledgeable guys' opinions
oops didnt see that - sorry for responding...

If I use a stock headgasket, I guess it will need to be machined if it's 84mm?

i belive you can just get the B20 head gasket in that case and drill a hole for the vtec oil passage...(coorect me if im wrong)

well getting a loan is awseome... make sure you can make the payments or else life goes down hill from there. I'll be doing that to but i'm taking out a crap load to do 2 cars.

why the heck are you going with a drag kit? Go revhard or apexi, ect.
(i hate their poorly designed manifolds)

best of luck bro....I too have a 90 civic si

Get a 3 inch exhaust system. Your 2.5 will be the bottle neck later on.

Compression - 10:1
Pistons- Arias, JE, Ross, Wiseco
Stock Rods - NOOOO
Headstuds - Yes, AEBS design is a litte better but ARP will work also.

At what point does the 2.5" become a bottleneck? I was thinking it would be good because the downpipe is only 2.5", but maybe your right. I haven't bought the exhaust piping yet, so I guess I can still change my mind.

It's actually a bottle neck from the get go. I mean you can still us 2.5, however you will get better response from the turbo if it's 3". (Quicker spool)

The less restriction, the better.

So then the 2.5" Downpipe becomes the bottleneck?

Go with the golden eagle overbored headgaskets. I just used on my 84.5mm GE sleeved block. Its a OEM headgasket that they overbored precisely, then check for burrs, etc. Also, use copper spray on the headgasket, this makes a tremendous difference for sealing!

I have always used arp studs, but the AEBS will work as well.

Pistons is a toss up, i would stick to either JE or Wiesco's. I always used JE's in my blocks, but i am trying the Wiseco's rollerwave pistons for my 2.0 and see how they hold up.

Rods you def. want aftermarket. Eagle are the cheapest at around 325-350.00, and will withstand around 650whp. Crower, manley, pauter, cunningham, etc are double or more what the eagle rods sell for. They are no doubt stronger, but if you arent making over 600whp, just stick to the eagle's...they have always worked for me.

I prefer GE sleeves over other brands because of the warrenty. The sleeves will withstand alot of boost, probably more than you will ever use. For the price, you cannot beat the GE sleeves.

boosted hybrid is right, i also use a GE headgasket with my GE sleeved block with no problems. Id stick with JE pistons personally, and also shoot for the crower rods if you can afford them.
