Can you please define your terms? Classic is pretty vague. Do you mean "Cruiser", like a Harley, or "Standard", like a Yamaha FZ1?

I'm not totaly sure how to differentiate a cafe' racer from a sport bike.

I think most here are of the SB variety.

i guess by classic i mean the older sport bikes from the 60's and 70's like a honda cb series or a yamaha rd series. and i would say a cafe racer is a style of tuning classic sport bikes. my friend and i are rebuilding a 1975 honda cb550f that we are converting into a cafe racer. it used to have clubman handlebars, but we fabricated some clip on's for it during the rebuild. the bike got kicked over by some local drunken frat boys and bent the clubmans, so we used part of them for the clipon stock. we are putting a cam from a 750 into the head of a 650 onto the 550 crankcase. we're thinking of adding the transmission from a 400 so we can have a six speed tranny, but we're not sure if that will work. anyways, all of that should give us higher compression and the cam has much greater lift and duration. i figured most everyone on the board had modern sport bikes though, but i was just wondering. i have a civic and saw the motorcycle link and was curious.

I've got several 84-85 Yamaha RZ-350 Kenny Roberts replicas.. Here's a bad pic of one of them.

you're right about the mentality of the cafe racer. i guess i also equate the idea of a cafe racer as a race bike for the street. i got into them from my friend. he's really into the vintage racing circuit. he doesn't race, but is thinking about starting. those bikes are all smaller engines, light, and super fast. that idea is very exciting to me. that's also why i love four banger cars that can out run and out handle v-6 and v-8 cars. i love the two yellow itr's in the post!!
