defitnaly 50's or even 45's
205/50R16 or 205/45R16 should be fine. 55's are too high of a profile for a EG with 16's IMHO

Are we talking about putting these on an EG? If so then a 205/50/16 is too tall for an EG. Even the 205/45/26 is slightly taller than a stock 13 or 14". Stick with the 205/45/16 it is better than a 40series.

definitely don't do it, I had 205/50-16 on my old Camry, which was the correct plus size up from 185/70-14, which is quite a bit larger than stock Civic tires. Anyway here's a pic of 205/50-16:
