Default SRS Light is on...

I have a 2000 accord LX coupe and I have a question. You know when you have your keys in the igintion with the door open and your car makes that annoying beep sound? Well my friend's dad said that he could make that sound go away. He messed with the fuse box on the driver side and about 3 hours later, the beeping was still there and now, my SRS light is on. Do i need to go into a shop, or is there something I can do to turn off the light? Help would be aprreciated. Thanks-

It's usually a good idea to check the codes before you clear them.

Did he remove any fuses, and forget to put them back in?

It sounds like he pulled a fuse for the air bag system while the key was on. If you want the light out immediately, you'll need to take your car the dealer so they can reset it (and charge you $70). The light will clear on its own if the failure isn't present for 50 drive cycles (I think its 50. I can't remember the exact number).

Since the light came on, my battery died. I disconnected it and had it recharged. That erased the memory of what the problem was. I know that he did not leave any fuses out.

if the SRS light turned on because of you:
Unplugging your gauge cluster
Unplugging your SRS harness(es) when you remove your seats
Unplugging any other SRS plugs and turning your ignition on

then u can reset it by shorting the MES control plug located under the driver side dash. If you look on the other side of the driver side fuse box in the foot well, you should be able to see this yellow tab with 2 wires sticking into it.

unplug it

get a paper clip and stick one end of the paper clip into one of the socket of the mes plug

turn the ignition to ON, not accessory or start.

then stick the other end of the paper clip into the other socket of the mes plug.

when the SRS Light goes off, unshort the paper clip by pulling one side out. The SRS Light will come back on.

short it again. The SRS Light will go off.

when the SRS Light goes off, unshort the clip. The SRS Light will blink twice.

turn the ignition off.

start engine as normal. The SRS Light should illuminate for a couple of seconds as normal and then go off.
