Extend stock steering wheel?
I'm 6'2", and I think the ITR is a bitch to drive comfortably.
Maybe I'm an idiot who doesn't know how to adjust the seat properly, but no matter what position I have my steering wheel/seat, I just can't seem to get into a comfortable and safe seating position. My knees are always hitting either the bottom of the steering column or my legs are rubbing the bottom of the wheel itself - sometimes its both situations!
If I move my seat back, then my arms are overly extended and its not safe for spirited/track driving. I have the sttering wheel on its highest position - but still, no luck. If I could move the steering wheel towards me just an inch, it would be a huge difference. Is this possible?
What do my fellow tall ITR owners do to cope with this annoyance?

I'm 6'0" and have managed to find a seating position that just barely works (just barely far enough from the pedals, just barely close enough to the wheel, just barely far enough from the roof). The guy who goes by "D" on here is about your height. Maybe try asking him directly.
You can easily extend the steering wheel - but your airbags and horn will likely not work. There are kits to allow horn function - but not airbags.
Im 6'4" and in my Teg, i got some del Sol seats, and its much better. I got the seats originally so my helmet wouldnt hit the cieling, but it helped knee/wheel clearance issues also.

U might want to get a low-position seat rail for the SRD seat. That should help with knee clearance. If ur opting to use an aftermarket steering wheel, there are many ways to have the steering wheel positioned closer to the driver.

It would be great to have an aftermarket wheel. But I want to retain the airbag, so I guess that is out of the question.

Weight reduction and better postion...
It`s a racecar and not a family car
I recommend to choose a dished wheel
This is mine for example:
I'm sorry, Cliff, you say you pay <u>how</u> much for insurance?
I think you need to ask Victor what his Insurance is like... he's the one who keeps getting tickets not me.
[poor sence of humor]Plus I have an excuse for driving fast: My speedo is in Km/H

Do you have a link that shows these kits?
or here: http://smartracing.net/ProdCat/Drive...20Comforts.htm
This is the best quick release setup I have seen that fit OMP/Momo/Sparco steering wheel hubs - kind expensive though.
I have the QR from SmartRacing and it is top quality. it is a bit expensive but works great and extended the wheel about 1.5"
If you don't want a Quick-release, you can always have a spacer made.

Move the seat as far forward as you can and still have control over the pedals without your foot bendwards the wrong way when you first contact a pedal. Does that make sense?
Then put the wheel as far up as it will go.
Then recline the squab enough to give you head room and a strong, bent-elbow control position at the steering wheel.
Now adjust the lumbar support.
So now I've gone back out and re-evaluated my seating position. With the above suggestions re-visited, I was able to get a <U>little</U> better seating position. But not by much. Thanks George!
It looks like now my only option is to get an after market steering wheel. But that won't happen till I get at least a 4 point harness... and that won't happen till I get at least a 4 point roll bar
Thanks for all the suggestions!
i'm 6'2 and have a cobra imola 2, and it's perfect! i had the same problem with my knees hitting the steering wheel, and had very little head room... but with the imola 2, i sit much lower... jdm style y0
it was definantly worth the money!

I don't know that 1" makes a huge difference; I'm 6'1" / 202 and I'm "comfortable".
I have the seat back all the way... fully upright... wheel is about 1" or 0.75" from the top of its adjustment. When I need helmet room, the seat recliner goes back one click.
I guess your milage may definately vary.

Well, I think we're beginning to zero in on the problem.
You see, it's an almost universally accepted rule of enthusiastic motoring that your feet should not be on the steering wheel.
