I've been waiting for IAS (Import Auto Salvage) to get a GSR motor in with lower miles. The last few weeks all they had were 2 with each having over 100k on them and for $3,300.
Just browsing the web site and it's showing a 96 GSR with 69,294 for $3,700. With shipping I'm looking at $3,900-$4,000. $hit, maybe I'll just rent a van and make the 7 hour trip to IAS from Savannah to get it myself.
What do you guys think? They should be able to do a compression test since the motor is still in the car
Should I go for it or wait it out and hope for something with lower miles?

If I drive up there maybe I can get them to throw in some extra things from the GSR and I could use / sell them.
Is 70k a lot of miles for nearly 4k?
I know I can go to HMO or Osaka but no telling what problems would come with them
Please post your opinions if I should buy this motor or wait for a better one.
Thanks!

b18c1_powered_si.......great experience with Brian Wong on this board. I bought my 96 GSR longblock from him. The motor is so clean it looks like a 2001
Honest, friendly, no b.s. at any time

forget about it. for a couple hundred more u can get a ctr swap from jdmhondaparts. and i second the motion that anything over 3300 for gsr swap with that many miles is a rip-off.

I just called IAS and spoke with Larry. I just asked what he had in as far as GSR motors. He said 2 95's with one having 103k and wasn't sure about the other one. He did say that he had a 98 or 99 earlier in the week that he sold already. I left one of them my # about 2 weeks ago and to call me when a low mileage GSR came in. Guess they misplaced the # or something. So I left Larry my # and he said there are some GSR's coming in Wednesday and he'll give me a call and let me in on the details of them when they arrive.
As far as the motor above. Larry never mentioned anything about the 96 or maybe that is the other motor that he thought was a 95 / unsure of the mileage off hand.
I'll see what happens Wednesday. I asked if they accept paypal and he was like all major credit cards. I was like "good" and hopefully something good will be in Wednesday. Maybe those statements are enough for him to keep my # on his desk

Yeah $4k for a GSR swap is too much. While I wouldn't use Osaka ther has to be a place that can get it for you much cheaper, at least $1k cheaper. You can do alot with $1k so I would hold back and be patient.
Yeah 4k for the motor is insane, I bought a full car with everything for $2500!! it was a 94 with 100k miles but still, made the money back parting out!!

take the $3000 GSR motor and just rebuild it with the extra $1000 if you are so worried.
I'd rather just be in good hands with IAS.

i feel that is too much...u can get a 98/99 GSR with like 30K for that price if u look around....
Scott
****....i don't know....that's too much for a GSR motor...high mileage too. remember: the best comes to those who wait.
the motor looks good from the outside but you don't know if there's anything else wrong with it internally...know what i mean?
