I've been waiting for IAS (Import Auto Salvage) to get a GSR motor in with lower miles. The last few weeks all they had were 2 with each having over 100k on them and for $3,300.
Just browsing the web site and it's showing a 96 GSR with 69,294 for $3,700. With shipping I'm looking at $3,900-$4,000. $hit, maybe I'll just rent a van and make the 7 hour trip to IAS from Savannah to get it myself.
What do you guys think? They should be able to do a compression test since the motor is still in the car
Should I go for it or wait it out and hope for something with lower miles?

If I drive up there maybe I can get them to throw in some extra things from the GSR and I could use / sell them.
Is 70k a lot of miles for nearly 4k?
I know I can go to HMO or Osaka but no telling what problems would come with them
Please post your opinions if I should buy this motor or wait for a better one.
Thanks!

Little pricey but you know you are going toget everything you need. I have heard nothing but great things about IAS. Great business ppl. And 70k isn't that much. I would do a compression test and a leakdown before buying. It is really easy to do. Maybe they will do it for you. 4000 is alot of money.

for 200 more you could prob get a ITR motor or CTR for like 3700. If he throws in suspension or something, that be a different story. But for $4000 and that millage, id say walk or wait.

I just called IAS and spoke with Larry. I just asked what he had in as far as GSR motors. He said 2 95's with one having 103k and wasn't sure about the other one. He did say that he had a 98 or 99 earlier in the week that he sold already. I left one of them my # about 2 weeks ago and to call me when a low mileage GSR came in. Guess they misplaced the # or something. So I left Larry my # and he said there are some GSR's coming in Wednesday and he'll give me a call and let me in on the details of them when they arrive.
As far as the motor above. Larry never mentioned anything about the 96 or maybe that is the other motor that he thought was a 95 / unsure of the mileage off hand.
I'll see what happens Wednesday. I asked if they accept paypal and he was like all major credit cards. I was like "good" and hopefully something good will be in Wednesday. Maybe those statements are enough for him to keep my # on his desk

All of those sound a little pricey. For $4k though, you could probably have a H22 in your car with money to spare.

I'd stick with IAS. Be PATIENT!! Let Larry Jr. know that you WANT a lower mileage motor.. He will find you one....
That's to much money. Maybe for 3 but not 4. If your going to spend that much do like someone said and just spend a lillte more for the type r, yuo can get a type r for less than 5 also.

F**k that! I'd rather spend $700 more and know I am not getting 1) f**ked over 2) POS motor
Well i do know u can get a B18c (Sir-G) Full swap with lsd for under 4k shipped. And thats with 30-40k. As for the R motors, if you play it right u can get the prices i mentioned.
i HAVE a 97 type r i could get you for 4400,Pm me if you are interested,I have sold many motors and have references of satisfied customers.
Your best bet is to find something local. that way you can check it out and make sure everything is there. I drove 3 hours one way to find my motor
Imo 4k for a gsr swap is a whole hell of alot. Oh and mileage wouldnt really matter IMO. Think about it this way.. Say one motor has 60k on it but the owner drove the hell outta it, didnt maintence it, hardly changed the oil, bagned the gears, bouncing of redline etc etc. You couldnt tell any of this by looking at the outside of the engine. The over here you have a motor with 100k on it but it was lady owned and never even went past 6k rpms, maintenced by the dealer and in perfect working order. So basically (especially on a honda motor which will last forever anyways) i wouldnt really focus on the miles to awful much. **** for under 4k you can get a JDM ITR swap from http://www.passwordjdm.com/passJDM.htm . Factory lsd and all. To tell the truth pretty much any motor you get from japan is gonna have well under 80k at the most. So check out password and all your options before you drop 4k. Good luck.
P.Ss I bought my H22 swap from hmotorsonline and had not one problem what so ever. Motor was spotless, prolly less than 40k on it. Got every single part i needed including, linkage, shifter(still had shift **** and boot on it) resistor pack, every mount, bracket, tons of bolts, intake pipe etc etc. Steve was awesome to me and helped me out alot and everything got there the exact day he promised(which was 5 days after i ordered
) So i had a great experience with them.
