Lude VS. R
A friend recently told me that in 1997 Car and Driver said that the Prelude was the best handling car under $30k. I am wondering, how do the two cars compare? Any explanations as to why one is better then the other in certain areas? Not lookin to flame him, he's a friend, just want to learn something.

The Type R outhandles the Prelude and Prelude Type SH in every respect. It weighs less, has a better suspension, and LSD (the SH's ATTS is not as effective as the R's helical LSD). This has all been covered many times before...
the itr definitely has the balance and weight advantage.

C&D did declare the Prelude the best handling car under 30k, however they did not include the R in their comparison.
Having owned both, I will say the R far outclasses the Prelude. It has much quicker reflexes, more ultimate grip, and better balance all-around. That said, the Prelude is far from a slacker....the Prelude handles great..but it does not handle as well as the R in any aspect.

ITR is just basically a better car IMO:
-ITR
-Rare. not like ludes.
-Lighter
-Better tanny(maybe)
-Better suspension
-Handles better
-Accrelates faster
-8400 redline screaming
-Lude
-Not as fast a R
-Heaver
-SUV like handling (as my friend told me)
He has a turbo'd lude and we were driving over 200 km on highway and he couldnt even come close to me when there's turn
-More room for passengers specially back seats.
and so on.
I have also owned both. It's hard for me to compare my R since I only put about 1.5k on worn tiressince I've owned it. The prelude feels more like a domestic V8 w/ it's long noise. It is more of a compromise between comfort and performance. The suspension is much softer. I would bet RE10's would have helped the lude in the salmon times. RE92's were terrible
I had a Prelude SH before my R. The R is faster at ALL RPM's and handles infinitely better. I even put good tires on the Lewd, but the weight of that car is just too high for it to transition like an R. The SH turned in better than the R, I think because of the ATTS (it kicks in as soon as you turn the wheel, unlike a mech. LSD that responds to the loss of the inside wheel's traction AFTER the fact), but once the R's LSD kicks in, goodbye SH.

For someone that has twice the experience, Hoosiers, and more power, you sure talk a lot of crap...for a little guy

I have both a 99 Prelude SH (winter car) and a 00 ITR (summer car). The Prelude has a firmer, quicker response than the ITR. But in no way is it a predictable and contollable as the ITR. The SH will hold it's own against pretty much any thing else out there in it's price class.
I'm not sure he was asking about a race-prepped Gen4 'lude
my mom has a Gen5, it constantly amuses me how small the damn thing is inside...no way i could fit with a helmet on.
And for the record, the Type SH has a LSD, a rather crazy one at that (Active Torque Transfer System) but the little unit weighs a TON.
EDIT: Zyg educates me that the ATTS is not technically a LSD, though it has some similar aspects of operation.

I would just like to remind all u itr owners that your cars are prepped up for the track when coming out the showroom. Its good tires on it, 25% stiffer suspension, with a slight drop(correct me it wrong on this one), front upper/lower/rear lower bars. Maybe a couple other thing i forgot. But the ludes doesn't have none of those thing. I agree it does weight alot more, but for a car that weight 400 pounds more, it holds its ground.
Also the 4th and 5th gen ludes wieght almost the same. So i don't know why u are saying that Corey cars is crazy. Coreys car is just prepped up for track, not the streets.
